My last night.

Just takes longer to toughen some people up than others :p

J/K!

For me, basic was more challenging mentally than physically. Loosing all of your freedom sucks but it was over pretty quick and wasn't too bad for most of us. I went through AF basic training when it was only 6 weeks long though. That was barely hard enough to weed out the weakest of the weak. I heard that soon after I went through, the AF started issuing timeout cards to the trainees. If they were getting yelled out and they just couldn't take it anymore...they could get 30 minutes without anyone being able to yell at them. Shameful...

Now I know why people looked at me like I was crazy when I would scream and punch file cabinets to get people's attention later on :D

I had an AF girl friend once who told me that her M-16 training started like this:

The instructor showed them the M-16.

Then he stated, if you ever have to use this, hide behind the Marines, that's what they're there for.

I was in a mobile unit and worked in satellite communications. We had to have site defense training to be considered deployable. We had to dig DFP's, set up C wire, defend the site from "Opposing Forces" (group of eager volunteers that basically had a special duty assignment for this specific reason), and basically play laser tag with M16's). We had to stay out there for several days and the first night, they played the song found below ALL NIGHT LONG through the very loud speakers at the site. Seriously...it was the most annoying thing ever!

When I was deployed, the Marines were the outer ring of protection, then the Army, then the Air Force. If it came down to the AF defending the site with M16's...we would have already lost the battle ;)
