My letter to the MetroPCS CEO about texting and my leaving.

To whom it may concern:

After ten years with MetroPCS, me and my family will finally be leaving this Black Friday, I plan to buy the Samsung SIII for my family on another service(one family member has already cancelled for another prepaid service). The reason why me and my family will be leaving is because times have changed and MetroPCS refuses to change along with them. As of September 2011, the average text user sends 41 texts a day, and as the number of texts increase, the number of calls decrease. I'm sure by now the numbers have probably doubled, but I don't need to tell you guys that. So you would figure that MetroPCS would start paying major attention to their texting service, but that is NOT what has happened.

The problem: MetroPCS has designed their messaging service to "que/backlog" any text messages meant for the receiving user if that user does not have reception (or for whatever reason the text message is not able to be delivered) when the text is initially sent.

Multiple times I have received texts anywhere from a FEW HOURS up to 24 hours+ later! I receive 6 text message or 10 text messages at the same time hours after they are sent, this makes them useless! OR I will recieve multiple text message all 5 minutes later that the expected delivery time making two person conversations impossible with your service! The service should CONTINUOUSLY attempt to send the messages to the users they are meant for, with a retry time of 5 seconds to a max of 1 minute until that message is delivered. Also anytime a user reconnects to a cell tower after being previously out of reception the service should AUTOMATICALLY check for previously undelivered TEXTS AND VOICEMAILS.

It is with a heavy heart that I leave your service after years of great service, but I guarantee you that I will not be the last if you do not change the way your systems are setup soon. This is the only major flaw I see in the MetroPCS service that has not been fixed yet, I would rather have bought the Samsung S3 from you guys since I already own the connect, but your service leads me to believe that the phone would be useless and still have the same problems.

This is a big problem with them as I've experienced it first hand. Good luck on your future endeavors.

Couldn't wait for the merger on my end things are only getting better loving metro good luck to you

To be correct right now is the first time in history when SMS usage had decreased .There are many other technologies right now, many people send things though internet services. If you have such a bad luck with SMS you might want to try send things through Twitter, facebook, instagram etc. Apple users have a service called iMessanger.

I really hope T mobile expands in my area. I'm in metro atlanta but service isn't good. I bought a T mobile sim to see what the data/coverage was like and while data speeds were 11-14Mbps, coverage was not good at all. Straight Talk sent me a free SIM to go back to ATT because I didn't know they were one time use.

I was surprised the coverage was bad being Im in the metro area of Atlanta. But I really hope the coverage gets expanded being that the data speeds are about 3-4 Mbps faster than the ATT sim.

Least I found out before moving over to T mobile and actually trying them out from the source.

Sorry for going off topic.

Good for you for leaving because the service no long meets your need. Good on you for trying to inform MetroPCS of why your leaving. Not sure though why you feel a need to make a public case out of it - but to each their own.

Information for future would be customers. Even though I doubt anyone would ever come here first before signing up to Metro lol

I love MetroPCS for every part of their service except for their texting and customer service, but this is a major part of the service for a lot of people. Sure, you can use other services but texting is the service that EVERY cell phone user has, that doesn't require an extra app. And the reason why I made it public is because companies need to be under some pressure to fix their mistakes otherwise they will never move to better their service. I've had some major issues in the past and until I put pressure on them they ignored my problems. Maybe if all of their users who suffer from their texting issues complained then they would try and fix it.

Though there are alternatives, I highly doubt that the number of text messages are decreasing overall, perhaps with the exception of iMessanger which was JUST released/in the middle of being released.

I'm currently enjoying the fruits of Straight Talk. With one phone call to their customer service after using them for 4 weeks, they owned Metro's customer service. Let me tell you, be glad your leaving. You can get MUCH more for your money. Metro was great but there are so many GSM carriers out now that it's actually hard TO choose Metro as your carrier.

I suggest you get an unlocked GSM version and head on over to Straight Talk. Sign up for ATT or Tmobile's sim, depending on who has better coverage in your area, and enjoy unlimited service for $45. ;)

As I have said many times before, I left Metro after 4 years. There network just did not suit my needs any longer. I pay about ten dollars more per month and have newer and cheaper phones to choose from along with superior service.

Metro is great for a pre-paid budget carrier, but you get what you pay for imo. I know some are expecting things to get much better with the merger, but having friends that were on TMo from my experience they were worse in coverage than Metro.

In fact many of my friends left Tmo FOR Metro because of service and now are stuck with the same company. I wish everyone luck whichever carrier they choose and whatever service works best for your needs you should stick with as it's your choice.

i guess it all depends where u live and thats the bottom line i could live in the middle of nowhere and say metro pcs sucks cuz they dont cover my area or i could live where im at and have full coverage and full bars and praise them but either way metro pcs isnt for everyone since they dont cover 100% of america. so we can neither brag about the company's performance nor hate on it.And for people that are planning switching over to metro pcs do your home work and make sure your covered 100%.

Which of course makes me wonder how many people are really having a problem with it. Although I've moved off the service for other reasons when I used them, really didn't have much problem with texting. An occasional one would get lost but most of the time they were delivered in a timely manner, even when I was working in a building that was effectively a faraday cage cutting me off for hours at a time.

I also have had this problem several times.

Guys, I use a good amount of data on 4G, Straight talk doesn't even have 4g? I called them today wondering if they really supported 4G, they have unlimited 3G. What plans are you guys using that offers 4G unlimited? I don't mind signing up for any prepaid service, though I perfer a GSM service. ATT seems to be best around the bay area, so I would perfer that but they are the most expensive by far, Tmobiles service runs around 90$, ATT is around the same thing + a few dollars. What am I missing here?

What is the best service for unlimited 4G or at least 2gigs of 4G access plus?

LOL. Straight Talk is an "inbetween" for ATT and Tmobile so going to ST is the same as going to either one of those companies. They have HSPA+ from which I average about 10Mbps as I was getting around 1.3Mbps LTE4G with Metro. Big difference huh? Doesn't matter if it's called 9G, what matters is the speed of the network.

So yeah, ST uses ATT and Tmobile towers. This is how they can provide a service for much cheaper in that they dont own the towers, they just use them. Last month I used 3 gigs of data with 0 issues all month. ST even sent me a replacement sim for free without asking. What ST did in that 1 phone call was more than Metro did in 5 years.

HSPA+ is the same regardless if it's on ST or Solavei or some BFE company in Alaska. There's no difference. Neither one is technically 4G but HSPA+ is called 4G by the companies.
I was trying to help him clarify since theyre promoting one thing but customer service was telling him another

In some area metro is not that great but in some other Metro is excellent . Where I live , metros network is as fast and consistent as any top carrier network. However, I pay less and I get unlimited everything , I can call internationally and I save a lot of money off contract. in my opinion Metro is indeed a potential successfuly prepaid network just that its not yet fully developed in most area ...
