Help My POP (Yahoo) email not picking up?

My POP service (Yahoo) hasn't been working very well. I can go to my computer and see email sitting in my Yahoo inbox but I can see it isn't on my phone. The email can sit there for hours and not get picked up despite the fact that my mail is set to retrieve every 15 mins.

This is an issue on both 3G and Wi-Fi. It never happened before yesterday that I know of. I even did a hard reset and it is happening again. I don't think this is a Yahoo issue since my XOOM on Wi-Fi has no issues with the same mail.

Anyone else have an issue here?

Is anyone else having issues w/Yahoo mail either picking up hours and hours later or not picking up at all? For instance, I have mail on my server right now that has been there for 5 hours though my phone is set to pick up every 15mins (and shows at the top that it is current).

As a test, I downloaded the Yahoo app and it stays current withouht fail (like my stock inbox used to). My XOOM has no issues either. My phone (whether on WiFi or 3G) is a different story. I have removed and re-added several times. I've tried auto setup and also generic POP setup nothing helps.

I don't have Yahoo! mail set up on my phone but I experienced hella-problems with this phone and Hotmail.

I gave up and searched for an app to handle mail the way I feel it should be handled... and not the way the Dinc2 handles it.

I tried K-9 mail and liked it immensely except that it wouldn't pull down mail consistently.

I started using DroidMail and for me it's a winner all around.

Not being snarky when I say I wish you luck if you are using the standard mail app/handler on the Dinc2. I spent several days in utter frustration (and was about to return the phone!) before I gave up and started looking for a proper mail app.

I think it is whatever POP protocol standard this phone uses. It definitely behaves differently with POP than the DINC1. I can say that Yahoo mail works fine with IMAP and the DINC2. That's been my solution.

My Yahoo mail hasn't been pushed to my phone since May 7. Prior to that it seemed to function as expected. I am not happy.

I am glad to know its not an issue with me SPECIFICALLY! May 7 is about the same time I began w issues. Like I said IMAP fixed all issues for me and I really don't see Mich difference in functionality.

I'm having the same issue... it stopped working in the middle of the night. I wonder if Yahoo changed some settings. If you figure out the solution please post it! It's very annoying!

I have not been able to receive yahoo mail even when I log into Yahoo. I think they are having email problems, not our phones.

All of my Yahoo emails from the past few days posted Monday afternoon (5/9/11). Not used to even worrying about email coming from a Blackberry. But I like the phone and I've dealt with plenty of Blackberry glitches. Auto synch is showing (or was) an unavailability message. That might have something to do w/the problem. Or not.

I just got an Inc2 for my wife yesterday. One of the first things I did was try to set up Yahoo mail for her, but it refused to pull down anything.

I personally have an Inc (non-2), and it has been working fine. Thus, I suspected the phone and not Yahoo. I went into the email settings to confirm exactly what I had and I saw that server names, port numbers, etc, were all listed -- but didn't see them as viewable/settable on the Inc2.

I selected the "Other POP3/IMAP" (I don't have the phone right now, so that text may be wrong) setting for the account type, rather than tell it that the account is Yahoo. Interestingly, it automatically filled in all of the right server and port info for the Yahoo acount automatically -- likely based on the @yahoo.com email address. Anyways, I completed that custom setup (with no changes to the default settings), and it all worked great.

The same exact thing happened with setting up a Gmail account on the phone. The stand-alone Gmail app worked fine, but I wanted to have the email in the standard email app, along with Yahoo. Again, telling the Inc2 the account was Gmail didn't work, but telling it that this was an "other" account, with an @gmail.com address, and it populated all of the settings and worked first try.

Very odd...
Very non-intuitive (and I'd hazard to say broken)...
But at least it has an easy setup work-around!

ckelly33's and rdlm's suggestions concerning using the IMAP settings definitely work. I went ahead and set up both my Yahoo and my gmail the same way. It's not at all difficult but it is weird that Yahoo might have to be set up this way. I think that there will be a fix but this works perfectly well.

I had the same problem; I went to the mail icon; click on more then new account; click on Other (pop3/IMAP), enter your email address and password and then click on next 2xs and then finish set up.

I did a test from my other email account and it went to my yahoo acct.
Hope this helps.
