My response from htc about q1 2.1

You were technically ripped off by a malinformed, talking dork sales rep at a store.

They are not trained well, are they?

You likely knew that about sales reps in general. They are trained to sell, if trained at all.

I keep seeing this nonsense on forum after forum after forum. If this is "a malinformed talking dork sales rep" your granny is a kangaroo. This is clearly a defined and coordinated (mis)information campaign. They told me the same thing! V2 will be out by the end of Q1.

Yes, I feel entitled to receive what I was promised when I purchased my Eris. Go figger.

"We" have? Were you promised an update when you purchased your phone? Does it work exactly the way it did the first day you owned it?

I seriously do not understand this entitlement philosophy that some of you have as though HTC/Verizon somehow OWES you an update.

Yes I was told by Verizon that it would be upgraded by the end of March. When I purchased back in Feb Verizon's website actually had the Eris listed to as "Voice turn-by-turn navigation". When I brought the page printout to the store the rep told me that it will soon have the OS upgrade which would allow this and other listed features. About 5 days later I checked Verizon's website and they removed this, in fact they rearranged the Eris features listing all together, covering their butts.

So, do you understand this entitlement philosophy now?

I keep seeing this ... on forum after forum after forum.

There is a reason you keep seeing it and there is a reason you have to feel as if there is a conspiracy at Verizon.

The reason you keep seeing it is explained in my post.

The reason you have to feel as if there is a conspiracy at Verizon (or HTC or in Taiwan, etc) to mislead/hurt/whatever Eris owners is that you, like some others, do not have the patience or ability to sort out the simplest of facts.

A widespread conspiracy requires widespread information to eminate from a source. That information has to be delivered exactly and strictly the same in all locales by all concerned, which is not the case with dork sales reps at Verizon.

There has to be meetings about it and the word coming down has to be checked and rechecked to insure it never changes because people, sales reps included, tend to augment things with imagined "facts" each time they repeat it.

We've seen quite a few different responses from those reps posted around here, many of a generic nature and many quite specific ("they lied to me and said it would be such-and-such date!!").

There are people who see things in the sky and call 911 or their newspaper with "proof" that UFOs are orbiting Earth and there are people who hear know-it-all (or "know-nothing" depending on the mood of the rep) stories from sales people and post conspiracies on forums.

It is a shame that something like this has to be explained to (presumably) an adult.

I'm assuming 99% of this forum is older than me, yet I've never seen adults argue over something so trivial.2.1 is out. The most recent version was released by someone on this forum that works for Verizon. Of you're too ***** to install the leak, then shut up and wait for the official update. But don't flood the forum with your whining.

You had a reason to a month and a half ago, but now that there's something to hold you off until the official, there is nothing you have to say.

I asked when I got my phone about the turn by turn directions, because I travel alot for work, and I hate having 3 or 4 different devices for things. I was told I would have the 2.whatever update in about 2 weeks. That was in November. So yes I beleive I am the entitled to the update that the salse man told me I was getting 4 months ago. That was the main reason I went with the eris

Smacky,
I think the reason for many of the posts in *THIS* particular thread was the one poster who said they didn't understand the entitlement mentality. I know for myself, and some of the other posters, it was a case of explaining *why* we have that view. I'm running the leak, and am satisfied with it. I don't really have the issues that many have had. The only one that bothers me is that I can't get to external web links from certain applications.

But I fully understand why people who were told something would happen, as a selling point for the phone, are upset that it hasn't.

I'm upset too. But this reminds me of the story where the guy was stuck on his roof during a flood. He thought God would come down and help him and refused the life boats that came by.

The 2.1 leak is our lifeboat, or temporary one, until the official one comes, and people are just overlooking the fact that it's out there or that they have it.

Guy settle down already the update will happen. Store clerks on partial commission based income will tell you that you can sleep with his wife if he gets the sale; all likely hood of her agreeing though is something else. Retail Clerks lie their asses off... I used to be a escalations agent for sprint and even had the clerks lie to me on the phone. Sales people care if they get the sale, and very rarely about if the device is glitchy or if a fix is on the way or an upgrade to a working OS is coming; they get told to push garbage before the news gets out or you don't have a job. You want answers then... google it. you want info... google the manufacturer. Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see and the cellular industry will make more sense. I have a HTC Magic+ on Rogers in Canada and I'm not thinking about what my phone can't do but all of the crazy ass stuff I can do right now with the device, and am looking forward to the new crazy ass stuff with Android 2.x, but if ya gotta wait you gotta wait. My son wants to be 18 to watch R-rated movies and shows; bitching bout it does not speed up the universe.

You don't understand people who spent money based on a promise wanting that promise fulfilled? Wow...

No offense, but I don't understand anyone spending money based on a promise.

I do. People do it all the time. They buy item because it will get an upgrade later.

FYI, I could really care less when, at this point,... since I'm running 2.1 leak v2, but I completely understand the angst of those who haven't upgraded to the leak...

I guess it depends on what you mean OTD. Take my experience for example. Did I buy the phone *just* because they said it would get the upgrade? No. But that promise coupled with the other things I liked about the phone (the size, the way it looks, the fact it comes from HTC, etc) did make me spend the money. If the clerk had said, "This is an entry level phone so don't expect it to get higher than 1.5" I would have said no thanks and waited for something else. So it wasn't the promise that caused me to buy it, but it was the straw that tipped the balance.

OTD and Adam make good points. I thought like adam, i really liked the phone and the premise that it would get 2.1 OS clinched the deal for me.

but im not mad, like many, and why is that? OOO cause I am running 2.1...

so, im cool with how things have played out.

That I can understand and it does make sense. I don't really view that as purchasing on a promise though. Was the scale tipped a little? Yes, but you already knew you liked the phone and you sound as though you were leaning towards it to begin with.

My thoughts were more on some of the other posts I have seen lately. Many of these contain very angry people that sound as though they did zero research or put very much thought into their purchase at all. They walked in and had a salesman pick a phone for them. Meanwhile they were being promised things like bluetooth voice dialing, Google Nav, Talk to Text, live wallpaper, Droid like performance, etc. and it doesn't sound like a single one of them had a clue what they were getting in the beginning. They bought based on the future possibilities without looking at what the current state of things actually were and are. To me, that is purchasing based on a promise and it just sounds dumb.

Gotcha :) I was leaning toward it. My wife already had one, and she loved it. I used hers for a couple of days to see what I thought. I actually liked my omnia, but it had just gotten to where I couldn't see the screen, primarily on text messages. So I was looking for something else, and the phone does have a clear display. I knew I wanted an android, because I felt like Windows had "jumped the shark" so to speak. Windows Phone 7 didn't seem to be headed where I wanted to go. So my choice was an Eris or a Droid. While I love the big screen on the Droid (again we go to that being able to see it thing!) I didn't love how the phone looks and feels. Which was a shame, if Motorola had just put some more thought into the design they would have had a better product IMHO. Anyway, the 1.5 OS was an issue to me. I have a compulsion to have bleeding edge, and 1.5 wasn't it....LOL. but when I was told it was going to be upgraded then I felt comfortable getting it. Hindsight? Maybe I would have waited for the Incredible, I could probably have suffered the Omnia a couple more months. But even so, I do love the way the eris looks and feels, and I love the clarity of the screen. I love the customization, I love the way it works (most of the time), so I'm not a hater of the phone! But I still like to be on the edge <G>

The update is coming. Perhaps there were some last minute issues with the update. It was stated the update was quarter 1, but that has obviously passed by, so just be patient and wait it out.

Anyone who calls into Verizon customer care, emails HTC, or talks to store reps about software updates is only asking to be disappointed. NOBODY in those positions knows any definitive information until the eve of the release in which case it is only told internally and you are NOT supposed to tell customers. Some people may have good internal contacts but they are not dumb enough to post or state information that could get them cut off.

And YES, I do work for Verizon Wireless and NO, there has been nothing official to report aside from it was coming in quarter 1 and apparently we missed that date. It happens in software development cycles which is why it is never good to commit to dates.

Sorry you feel frustrated, but it is coming and will be released when it's ready.

This may be one time where scripture speaks concerning technological updates: "'No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.'" (Matthew 24:36)

In other words....God only knows when we will get this thing?
