My take one Incredible 2.

Well, I decided to upgrade from Incredible to the Incredible 2 yesterday. Here are some of my early impressions...

Pros

  • The SLCD screen looks fantastic!
  • Call quality was very good.
  • The new form factor is perfect for me and it feels quite refined over the original.
  • The first days use seemed to show decent battery life.
  • A little smoother and faster then the original.
  • The camera seems to be improved (more responsive).
  • It appears the former hot spot tethering trick works with this phone.
  • 16gb micro sdcard included.

Cons

  • I don't care for the extra clutter in the notification pull down. There is a list of recently used apps there.
  • The speaker phone is very weak. I was happier with the originals.
  • I could not find a way to quickly delete an image after taking it, very odd and annoying.
  • The bloatware on this phone is epic. It is everywhere and I will be rooting as soon as possible because of this.

I will update this thread as I discover anything else. I am very happy with the upgrade despite some of the cons. If you have any specific questions I would be happy to try answer them.

Good info and quick question regarding placing a call. Do you notice much lag from when you enter the phone dialer to when you place the call? What if you end your call and then try to place another call, any lag there?

I'll be coming from an Eris and there are times where it takes a full minute to place the call after I've hit call. Likewise, when ending a call and then trying to place another call it can take upwards of a minute. It is unbearable at times.

I've noticed an increasing amount of lag on my Droid Pro at times between placing a call and the call actually going through myself. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough to be very annoying. I'd be interested to find out about this as well.

This is definitely not the case with the Incredible 2. I would guess it only takes about 3 seconds after hitting call until the phone is ringing out. Hanging up and dialing a new number can be done in about the same amount of time. The dialer is very responsive.

Another con is, the Inc 1 has 6.6GB more internal storage. Why no internal on the Inc 2, besides a cheaper acquisition price for VZW..... I guess I answered my own question.

Or it could be because NO 3rd party app is able to access the EMMC storage and none of the developers are too keen on rewriting their code. You get another 232 more megs to use for apps and a 16 gig SD card that can actually be used by ALL apps. Seems like a better trade off to me.

I got the inc 2 today. It is a quick phone and is pretty much a Thunderbolt with a slightly smaller screen and no lte. And the way they have Sense looks a little different. But if you dont care about lte it is a great phone and $50 cheaper than the Thunderbolt. If you compare the two smartphones on htc's website you will see that the specs are not that different. I love the Incredible 2 and have had no issues with lag yet. I recommend this phone if you don't want that big of a phone or maybe a lighter phone. It has very good call quality and it is very loud great phone.

Well, I got 15 and half hours after the first days use with about 25% of the battery left before I plugged it in for the night. I was using it quite a bit yesterday. Looks very promising.

I played with one in verizon yesterday and it was not smooth at all when transitioning screens. I was wondering if anyone else thought this it was way to jumpy for me.

Sounds lik a great phone. It is the sequel to a fantastic phone so I'm not surprised. What concerns me is that the phone isn't flying off the shelves like the original did, or like other top phones do. Because of the lower sales I wonder what kind of support this phone will receive. It may be on the bottom of the chain for updates, it may reach EOL by 4th quarter.

The only thing the INC 2 has right now over some of the other phones out is really the FFC. It's a nice phone and I contemplated paying full retail and selling my Fascinate but I think I may just wait it out. I think the low retail price should bring developers to the phone. Just gotta wait it out it's not a must have though that is for sure.

I experienced this in one store as well. BUT in another store it was fine. I purchased one yesterday and am LOVING it. I came from the Moto Droid 1. This phone is awesome and I have not seen any lag in switching screens or apps.

Could you elaborate on the epic bloatware you found on this phone? More than the original Incredible, even after Verizon started adding all their crap?
Thanks!

yeah i wouldn't put too much thought into the in store model running like poo. Maybe try out another retailer or reboot the phone next time if possible before you start playing with it and see if that clears any crap up. No telling what people have come in there and slapped on it. Not to mention most of the VZW reps are still brainwashed that task killers are a good thing and insist on putting them on EVERY friggin android phone that is in the store.

I counted 19 apps in the Verizon page. One thing I find particularly annoying is while using the camera app is you can select a button to view the gallery. Once in the gallery view you get a tool bar with various buttons, one of these buttons is a for vcast videos, I don't understand its placement there. Oddly, there is no delete button present.

Wow, 19 verizon apps alone?! That is ridiculous!!
And not being able to simply delete a picture is just poor programing/design.

Does anyone actually use vcast? Or any of the verizon apps at all?

To be fair a few of these apps are things like Skype, Kindle, and 3G Mobile Hotspot that have a place IMO.

I have never rooted any of my HTC devices in the past but as soon as there is a stable mod for my phone, I will be rooting.

i dunno about your phones, but mine has a picture of a trashcan on the pics in the gallery, when accesed through the camera app. i didnt press the hard menu however, i just quick pressed the image itself and a couple icons popped up, one of them being delete. that seems easy enoguh to me, maybe im missing something?

I know you can use the trash can button while previewing the image you just took but after the preview period expires is what I'm referring to.

When your in the camera app and select the photo icon (bottom right) it takes you to your photos. While you are in this view there doesn't seem to be a way to delete images. When you hit the menu button in this view you have useful options like: vcast videos (not), set as, slideshow, select player, show on map and details.

Once the image has been saved it seem the only way to delete it is by opening the gallery app separately (5 or 6 button presses away).

It seems to be an oversight in my opinion.

Okay, I just discovered the error in my ways. A quick tap of the image while in this view will give you your options that the menu key or long press would not. I'm a happier camper now.

Good to hear on the pictures. Now if we can just get them to stop adding all that other crap to the phones! ;)

I'm digging my phone - it's snappy and works like I need it to. The random garbage apps that VZW has added, however, are ridiculous. NFL Mobile, Lets Golf 2, Blockbuster - you have got to be kidding me.

Well, I decided to upgrade from Incredible to the Incredible 2 yesterday. Here are some of my early impressions...
....

So my question is "would you do it again?" I have the opportunity to upgrade from a Dinc to a Dinc2 or TB for almost free but would move my next upgrade from 2012 to 2013. Trying to decide if the incremental improvements over the Dinc make it worth it to move my next upgrade out another 12 months.

Any input you have would be greatly appreciated.
