my thoughts on the 4.0 update

FWIW and IMO:
There's no way in hell I would lose my unlimited data for a new super-duper-improved-gizmo phone. That's just plain crazy. You can always get a new phone but you will NEVER get unlimited data again. That's why I didn't wait for the GSIII, and honestly it's a nice phone but so is the Spec once we get the ICS update.

yea no way I would lose my unlimited either for any phone. I have 3 smartphone lines and pay a hell of a lot for data and my unlimited line is the cheapest one lol.

29.99 for unlimited, 80.00 for 20GB, and 30.00 for 4GB

Yeah that makes most sense for you... I'm still monitoring my usage to see if the unlimited plan is really needed for me.

well considering it's the same price as "SHARE EVERYTHING"s 4GB plan on a smartphone, to me it's a no brainer. Perhaps I might use less than 2GB THIS month, who's to say that I won't use 5 next month or 15GB in one month of heavy usage ESP now that the FCC has ruled that Verizon cannot prevent me from using free tethering apps. My daughter just got a new wifi-only tablet and on trips I am sure that she will be begging us to tether to the phones on the road.

It's like saying I will settle for dial-up for the same price as broadband.

I found I'd save $20 a month by switching to the new plan... But I'm going to make sure my data remains less than 4gb/month before I actually make the change. Now that I have a wofi-only tablet, I may use more data... I've got over a year to decide, so we'll see.

Since Verizon is apparently not releasing dates anymore can anyone repeat the information if we are indeed getting the ice cream sandwich (ICS) Update in the 3rd week of August or the last week of August ?

LG rep had no clue this morning when she was helping me with my picture issue. VZW gave me the same no idea response when i called them initially with my problem.

I've had my Spectrum for a few hours now. I had a Droid Charge that was a total POS and after many complaints VZW agreed to swap the device out without changing anything on my account. So new to the Spec.

I did a phone survey after they agreed to swap my device and I told them they were too expensive and their software development was poor at best. Someone actually called me back a day later and I got to explain it in detail to them, how they pack their crap on the ROM's, take way too long to deliver an update, and make it very difficult for the mfgr to service their phones. Not that it will help but at least I got to give the guy an ear full.

LG doesnt have anymore bloat than any other brand does. And if we get ICS before months end that means we got our update faster than the rezound, bionic, razr, and I'm sure many others devices. If the spec does get ICS before months end then I would say people need to shutup about LG taking forever to update. Because as far as I can tell they all take forever to update. There are very few exceptions to this. There are some phones, NOT BRANDS (due to a set of circumstances) that will recieve updates in the first few months they are out, but these are usually minors updates and not complete upgrades to a whole new OS.

PS. The charge sucks on stock but actually is a good phone on a custom rom like tweaked or eclipse. I still use my charge now and it runs great and pretty much never lags. Not to mention it boots in about 20 seconds when my spec takes over a minute.
My only real annoyance with the charge is I have issues with it dropping mobile hotspot all the time.

Truth. If anything, Motorola is the worst offender with their rom-specific apps integrated into 2.3. Some are kinda useful like 'profiles', but others like 'social media' are useless to guys like me that don't use Facebook and Twitter like a damn teenager.

Ive talked to a couple of you guys through this thread via pm's about my SGS III so I can't help but to update ya...someone on XDA just unlocked the SGS III bootloader. Ha take that VZW!!!! I can't create the folders and download the ROM's quick enough and now that its unlocked the support is gonna go through the roof.

On a different note I had to unsubscribe to the ICS thread on the LG forum. The shit talking has gotten out of control and I can't stand getting a new email alert, thinking maybe 4.0 just hit and instead its another pissed off customer loosing their cool.

I don't even check that thread anymore. At first I did but I really got tired of reading the whiners post.

Well Third week of August would mean starting Monday...so we shall see what happens! i will keep posting and if i get it in the first "wave" of the OTA update i will post pics

Cool...I'm not subscribed to as many threads now so posting here would be much appreciated. I can confirm that Jelly Bean is unbelievably smooth! :D

Android 4 update is really cool and also very interesting to see how the development is taking further stance at google.

*shrug* I don't have a problem with people bitching, they have a right to be annoyed. The mudslinging is another issue, and both linux and d2all need to pop a xanax and retreat to seperate corners before they get the thread locked altogether on the lg forums. I'm not saying either one of them is right/wrong, everyone just needs to chill.

But as far as bitching about people bitching that the update wasn't here yet, it was promised in Q2, so they have the right to be like WTFBBQSAUCE!!1! especially since vzw refuses to put out an official word on when it will drop.

Sorry death2all110 but the language in this post is a little too extreme and I need to remove this post.

Well I guess LG likes him.

I don't think the update was promised in Q2

The only thing I ever heard was "insiders" were saying to "news sources" that it would come out sometime in Q2. I do not recall any official statement from LG or Verizon that it would definitely be coming in Q2.

And it just may be that Q2 was the goal but they ran into a huge issue with the coding and had to do a major overhaul of what had already been done. We don't know.

Now I do wish LG and Verizon and all big companies would be more open and upfront with people about stuff like this but thats another issue altogether.

on the phone with verizon right now.. this guy says that its not on the list for this month.. and they wont know about next month until it starts.. looks like no frozen treats for us yet... imll give this replacement battery they sent me a few days to get on the right schedule.. and if no word of updates by then.. im complaining until i get a different phone

No offense guys, but take that with a grain of salt. Vz didn't have the gingerbread update for the DROID 2 listed either and it was pushed before their reps even knew about it. At vz, the right hand rarely knows what the left hand is doing.

In fact that's common in most large corporations. It's rare all groups are 'in the know' about everything, so let's all relax and stop speculating and attacking. It'll happen when it happens. :-D
