myTouch 1.2v Error "Please Insert an SD card before using the camera"

After waiting two months, my replacement card is finally here. Just thought I'd update that I finally got it. I've been using an old 1G card in the interim and it has worked flawlessly. I'm going to assume this new card will work fine - it's class 2. If there's anything to report, I'll check back in. I sure hope not though. Thanks for all the work everyone - it was a great team effort. Thanks especially to Jsourp. :)

Well, the replacement SD card is only sometimes recognized by my phone. :( Same error... "Please insert an SD card." Or, for music files, "The player does not recognize this file type." Once I take out the SD card and reinsert it, it works for a few hours. ...calling HTC.

UPDATE --- Called HTC and they're aware that the replacement SD cards aren't working in some cases. The support dude told me they are escalating these cases to another fix which includes a new card from a different manufacturer and a software update. He said they'll call me once they get all that lined up. I'm not sure why they would try both fixes - how about just trying the different brand card first? That seems to be working for most everyone, and it worked for me when I used an old spare I had lying around. Oh well, I'll likely post another update when I get to that step.

I'm going to go out on a limb here (after knocking on wood) and say that my replacement card that I purchased from Costco cured my problem. I haven't had one single incident since I installed the thing. Before it was happening several times a day.

The first week I had my MT3G I had all the same SD card problems. I went to Microcenter (here in Georgia), picked up a 8g class 4 SD card and havent had a problem since. I think that the class 2 they give just isnt fast enough.

BTW, I'm new to the forums, and wanted to say hey.

thank you, thank you, thank you everyone!! at last a solution to a very frustrating and an annoying problem! instead of going through the bunch of liars at t-mobile or HTC, I bought a class 6 8gb card online, decently priced. it had a lot of great reviews, too. You all are saints! I can't wait to take pictures and listen to music without resetting my phone 20 times a day!

thanks for the help guys =) I switched sd cards with my mom, she has an 8gb sandisk for her blackberry. My sd card is the one my mytouch came with 8gb works in her phone and hers works in mine! WEIRD... I'm so happy I've been dealing with sd card problems for 3 months, very annoying =/ It's been working for a week now, try not to order a new memory card from HTC or T-mobile. Everywhere I read people are saying the same problem occurs. I dont know if its the brand or if they are defective. Walmart has good prices on sd cards... been working for a week

I used to have the same problem.. but it stopped recently for some reason.. now i dont have to reset my phone anymore.. or remove the sd card.. i don;t know why it stopped.. but am glad it did. didnt replace the sd card.. or the phone.

How could i tell if i've a class 6 or a class 2 micro sdhc? I bought a 4 gb sandisk FROM WALMART and it's giving me this same problem... I'm not able to use the camera, camcorder or listen to music. Sometimes i'm just able to listen to music but not able to use my camera. Is this just an issue with the sdhc cards or with the phone itself?

On the card where it says Sandisk.. there is a C with a number set inside it . that is your class.

For everyone thats just looking for a solution!! Just buy any micro sd card class 4 or higher!! I dont know what it has to do with anything about being to slow anything. But it works. Ive got a 8 gb class 4 for a month or so and never again did it pop up. It cost 20 bucks at target.

THE NUMBER IN THE LITTLE CIRCLE TELLS YOU WHAT CLASS IT IS.

Since this last post was a few months ago, has anyone had any resolution that has permanently worked? I got my phone in April and had the same problem since about 2 weeks after I got it.

I've gone through all the steps: new SD card from HTC, did the factory data reset, etc. Just got a new phone from T-Mobile.....and the same thing is happening! :(

I LOVE my phone, but am going crazy with this SD card issue.

Please help! I'd appreciate it. :)

Goto the store and get yourself a class 4 or class 6 SD card and you wont have any more problems.
The SD card will have a small circle with a number in it somewhere on the front of the card. That tells you what class it is. The class 2 they send with the phones is not fast enough. Get yourself an upgrade and you'll be fine.

I agree, buy your own SD card. The card I purchased was a class 2 from Costco and I haven't had that error since I put it in the phone. It isn't worth the headache or stress trying to deal with HTC or TMO on this issue, IMO.

Hi to all.

On Wednesday afternoon, I received 2 new MT3G 1.2s from T-Mo.
On Thursday afternoon, both started having SD card issues. Thanks to this forum, I knew the solution. Friday afternoon, I went to Office Depot and found an 8Gb sd class 4 for 17.98 ea. I bought two, replaced them, and we are in phat city!!!

From what I can understand, it appears HTC is replacing the faulty cards with class 2 devices again. Is that correct? Is that why there are multiple issues?

I spoke with a very nice lady at T-Mo Friday afternoon and she suggested I request a class 4 or higher card from HTC. In my mind, I am thinking what are the odds this request will be honored. LOL

In the meantime, I have rooted my phone, made a nandroid backup, and am just getting the courage to update the rom. Not sure whcih one would work best for me personally.

BTW, I have an iPhone 2G, unlocked and jailbroken, that I ran on T-Mo since I bought it from the ATT store, but the android OS just seems so much nicer to me. Loved that phone but really am enjoying this.

Thanks for your time and your posted knowledge!

Mike

I had the same issue replaced my Memory card with a 2gb and it works perfect now.. I no longer have to miss pictures because my camera won't load.. The most annoying thing ever and all tmobile would do is advise me to reformat my card. Try a different card hopefully it works for you as well.

I was trying to send a nasty pic to my dude :p after he sent me one and got that error and he thought I was faking on him and didn't want to send it. This IS good informational help. I just purchased MyTouch 3g with the 8 gig card and I've been having this problem with my music, camera, video, etc. I haven't called yet, but will. I think the bottom line is to call with the reference number and wait for another SD card. Thanks alot to everyone!!:)

I can not believe this issue still has not been fixed. Why is HTC or TMobile still sending out defective SD cards when they know about the defect? My husband and I both just bought MyTouch 3g phones about a month ago and have had this problem since we got them. But this thread started in April! You'd think they would have gone through all the bad SD cards by now, and thrown them in the trash! Glad to know we can fix it by just buying new SD cards. Will have to try that after payday. Glad I found this thread!
