Root Mytouch 4G ROMs

Has anyone been able to flash back to their stock recovery after flashing Clockworkmod?
I tried using flash_image in terminal I get "flash_image not found".

Are you using the instructions from the xda thread?

I haven't attempted. I'm not really interested in going back to stock I should give it a try sometime but when I attempted this with the MT3G I broke it (couldn't receive phone calls). So I'm a little put off by the whole reverting back thing now.

Did you try to flash your recovery back or completely unroot?

I tried to completely unroot. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I've still got that phone layin around somewhere. After getting all excited about the new one and rooting I thought about pulling it back out to tinker with it. I actually went about a month with only being able to talk to people if they left me a voicemail so that I could call them back.

Duuude. Unrooting is easy. Check out my sig, all the links you need are right there.

Be aware this will completely erase everything on your phone.

1. Copy sappimg.nbh to the root of your sd card.
2. Power off phone.
3. Hold vol down + power until you get to a screen with 3 skateboarding androids.
4. Tell it to start update. DON'T TOUCH IT UNTIL FINISHED OR YOU'RE REALLY ****ED. When this process is complete the phone should reboot into Cupcake. Yep, Android 1.5. Old school....
5. Follow the links in my sigs to get back to Donut, then wait for the ota to Froyo to come through.

Thats the thing though I thought I did it right because I was back to Donut but I couldn't receive incoming calls. I dug through and saw that my kernel was not the stock. Is that also in your link?

EDIT: nvm actually started reading. I might try this later today. If I get it working perhaps someone will want a MT3G

My links will overwrite EVERYTHING, including the kernel.

Quick tip. Any time you make a change (update, flash something, etc.) let it sit for a while on first boot before you use it. There are background processes and "thinking" going on that need to complete.

After you flash sappimg.nbh you should be able to make and receive calls but you'll be on the OLD 26i radio.

Use this copy of SAPPIMG. I've unrooted my mt3g multiple times.

You ARE using a myTouch 3G 32B handset, right?

If you want a more step-by-step tutorial, this one is good.

Alright well then I know what I'm doing tonight. I appreciate the unlockr link but I don't really like his instructions. I find XDA tutorials way easier to follow for some reason.

Hmm, I find TheUnlockr tutorials easier. Lol, whatever works. Feel free to hit me up on Google Talk if you have questions.

So I busted out the legendary mt3g and found out that I forgot that half the physical buttons don't work. Oh well. I also forgot how small that thing was lol

Ok good, that's what I was originally asking. I found this thread yesterday and was worried this method had screwed up your phone.
No that's the only way to get back to stock recovery after you flash clockwork recovery. this phone is plenty fast enough I think I can wait for 2.3 .

I agree with you that this thing is plenty fast, but I dunno, I ran CM6 last night for a short while and I've been running it most of the day. The phone is decidedly snappier if you can imagine, plus I just like the look and feel of clean Android.

Having trouble getting the oem HTC_IME.apk to be recognized. ADB pushed it to system/app successfully but the rom doesn't want to register it. I'm confused.

I ran cm6 friday I was impressed but the bt still had issues. You'll run into problems trying to run htc apps that use htc sense as a service.

Really? Link please!! :D

This is an alpha release but everything seems fine on mine. Make sure you fastboot flash your recovery to 3.0 and wipe and install zip through recovery they have gappsgb in the same thread, Some have had problems installing them through recovery I always extract the gapps zip on my sdcard the leave the folder and the zip in the same location and use recoverey when I setup CM. Oh and don't use the clockwork rom manager only use the 3.0 recovery.
