Root N00b rooting question

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster here. So today I bought a shiny new X (with a one year contract) as my first smart phone. After spending the last couple of weeks and months reading up on rooting I was positive I could do it. I followed this tutorial to T however, my phone froze after I hit Permanent Root and it said it was checking for exploits or something.

After about 15 mins (the clock on the Droid froze) I panicked and pulled the battery. It booted up fine again but that scared the crap out of me. What do you think happened? Did I not wait long enough? The battery was low, could that have had something to do with it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Really? On my droid? Am I screwed? I used my GF's Mac to download the apk file and I know she doesn't have any antivirus software on her machine. Thanks for getting back to me.

Where did you get the z4root from? If you got it off the market you didn't root. I got mine from the XDAdevelopers site. See it seems that the one on the market is bogus.

I forgot to reboot the first time I tried to get root with z4root. But after rebooting, everything was fine.

I got it from the same place you did. When do I reboot? I definitely didn't reboot until I pulled the battery. Maybe that could be it...

I didn't say it was infected, just that rooting is a behavior that might be blocked by a program that acts as an anti-virus/anti-malware on your phone. Hacking tools are often blocked on PC's, so why not on a smart phone?

I have lookout on mine and it did not cause any issues when I rooted. My guess is since he did not reboot before trying to run z4 thats the problem.

is this resolved?
There are bad copies of Z4 out there , but a good one is easy enough to acquire.
i also have a mac, and had no trouble getting Z4 to work, it may have been a bad copy.
