N5 won't play YT/video clips without pausing every few seconds

Not sure whether I'm missing anything but my N5 won't play video clips - YT or otherwise - without pausing every few seconds. It's not even buffering so far as I can see (no wheel or other buffering icon on screen), it just pauses repeatedly which is beyond irritating. Android tablet plays them fine, with very odd exceptions, but the phone refuses point blank.

Any suggestions? Main connection is via WiFi.

I've got a similar issue on my home TWC connection too, but I assumed it was buffering. It plays better on HSPA+ with good reception. Laptop on wifi doesn't have much issue.

Mine does the same thing over my home WiFi but it only happens at certain times of the day for me or long videos. I normally don't have a lot of issues with the short clips.
