Root N5 won't start after installing Android 4.4.4

Hello everyone,

I was running the Android L developer preview on my rooted Nexus 5 16GB. Because I didn't find it stable enough, I decided to go back to Android 4.4.4.

I tried to do it using the Nexus Root Toolkit, but something went wrong. The software was flashed to my Nexus, but it won't start. The only thing I can see is the Google logo.

The big problem is, because my Nexus doesn't start, I can't enable USB debugging. So, I can't reinstall Android 4.4.4 using the Nexus Root Toolkit. It keeps saying "fastboot device was not found."

Does anyone know a solution for this problem? I need my phone because I'm going to Berlin in a few days... :(

Hope you can help me!

Welcome to our AndroidForums, Sem!

I've moved your thread over to the all-things-root sub-forum for you, by the way.

adb or USB debugging isn't actually involved here (fastboot is the mode and utility in question, not adb)...it sounds like you might have just missed a key wipe step on your device, but I've not use the (Wug's, right?) Nexus Root Toolkit, so I'm not sure what is specifically asks or automatically does.

In Googling a screen shot of that, it looks like there's an option to indicate the "Current status:" as being "Soft-Bricked/Bootloop"...is that radio button enabled? (I'm guessing that would trigger the tool to do one or more requisite wipes).

Hopefully someone else that's familiar with Wug's toolkit will also chime-in and confirm (or debunk :p) the above.

Hope that helps!

If you reboot to the bootloader/fastboot, the toolkit should detect it and be able to run

Its only trying to get adb in order to reboot to bootloader/fastboot anyway

Ah, good point, Rx!

I assumed his device was already in bootloader/fastboot mode:

1. power the device off/down
2. press and hold the volume-down and volume-up rocker and (still pressing volume-down & volume-up), press and hold the power button until you see the screen come back on

That should put you in fastboot/bootloader mode and make/help the toolkit be able to work for your device.
