Help N7 has suddenly stopped changing orientation

I've tried locking and unlocking the auto rotate button in the upper task tray but my screen remains locked in portrait orientation unless I open an app that goes into landscape, and vice versa. Have tried rebooting to no avail. Has anybody else experienced this? Is there a solution? Not rooted and won't be doing so, so stock android solutions only please. Thank you!

I have had the same problem.

It seems to be at least partially a software problem. (I don't know if it is a hardware problem.) After a reboot, auto orientation seems to work for awhile. Lolipop did not make it any better.

The only solution I have is to install these two apps and to learn to live with it:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.eyesfree.setorientation
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.eflow.util.rotation

There are other orientation controls you can find and try. These are just the two I liked the best.
