Naked droid, pocketing it?

Have only owned the Droid since Tuesday (I love this phone) Dont own a case or screen protector yet. Have been using it "naked" and so far no problems at all. I have been putting it my shirt pocket or jacket pocket when I go out. BTW, did I mention I love this phone? :D

Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering how many of you simply use your droid naked (with a screen protector on possibly) and just pocket the phone? I've been 'paranoid' about doing so ever since i got the phone after hearing stories of small scratches that can appear (even though i do have a screen protector on it) or dust accumulating under the screen, etc...

i use a sena case leather sleeve now but its kind of a nuasance to remove the phone everytime i want to use it instantly. for instance, if a call comes in while driving that i've been waiting for, there is no way i can drive + remove the phone from the leather sleeve + answer in time.

i really just want to use the sleeve when i want to and otherwise just use the phone naked and throw it in my pocket so i can easily have access to it when im on the run.
should i be worried/concerned at all about just pocketing the droid naked (for the above reasons and others)? or am i being overly cautious by avoiding doing it at all costs?

just looking for the opinion of those using the droid for awhile naked and throwing it in their jacket or pants pocket.. maybe some reassurance or something? ;p thanks for any responses to this possibly dumb question.

I prefer a case, the amount of lint in one's pocket is just asking for dust under the screen.

Bought my phone when it first came out, put screen protectors on it but it orange peels and starts to look bad. No cases always keep in my left pocket without anything in it except maybe some receipts or a flash drive. Only one scratch on my screen but that was from when it fell out of my loose pockets and landed right on its face. It could have been worse and the scratch is on the very top corner so the screen is not affected. I love this thing, use it all the time. Naked is the way to go, I might get a case sometime, if the price is right and the case is slim enough...

Naked Droid here. I have a screen protector on it...and I would never go without it.

I did try a case once. It was a clear, cheap one from Verizon. I hated it. Made my phone too bulky.

Naked with no screen protector. Carry it in my right front pocket all the time, just like I did with my iPhone. Always sure to put the screen against my leg, tho, so that it can't get damaged by a bump.

Been doing that for about three years with large screen smartphones and NEVER had a problem.

I generally take care of my $hi7, tho. YMMV.

The only sort of case I would ever use is a belt clip (or that $140 carbon fiber case mentioned somewhere on this forum, but I could get a new phone for that price!). Unfortunately, because of my high school's ridiculous "no cell phones" policy (even though all of the staff knows full well that everyone has a cell phone), I can't have the phone on my hip. Screen protectors annoy me, I like the feel of the glass; nothing comes close. So yeah, my Droid's been naked since I got it on launch day, and it still looks pristine. :)

The trick is to give it its own pocket, have the screen facing towards your body, and make sure the headphone jack faces up.

Naked droid since 11.11.09. 1 inch section of the bezel has rubbed off so it's silver instead of black since I hit it with my wedding ring ALL THE TIME when i am taking it out of my pocket. But screen is perfect, no scratches or dust. The phone is a beast. I don't need to coddle something made out of metal and gorilla glass. By the time it breaks, i'll have a new phone.

Mine is naked with just a screen protector. No problems in the pocket but I have dropped it once or twice and have given my Droid a few 'battle scars' about the body but they don't bother me and still prefer to carry it naked. The screen is still in perfect condition though.

Whatever you do, don't drop it on asphalt!!! Had it on my lap while driving and forgot to grab it before i got out and phone went flying and slid on the pavement. I have a few scuffs on the bezel around the screen. I might give the nail polish thing a try.

Naked in my pocket with my keys. Had a case on for a little while and took it off and dropped it on the asphalt face down the same day and a few more times after. There are some scratches, more than likely from asphalt, but the screen looks as good as it did when i bought it. You definitely dont need a screen protector unless you have sand or diamonds in your pocket..

that's why i use a holster. sand in one pocket, diamonds in the other.

Had a Verizon snap on case, failed after three days. Now its just naked, no screen protector or anything, has fallen out of pocket from street level, and even out of a 10 ft. ceiling onto a concrete floor, twice. After the second time in 15 minutes I thought to myself, "its dead!" but it reassembled, booted back up and now runs like new. Aluminum is exposed in a few spots on the case, but I am a fan of 'character'.

My Droid is naked too; however, I've had it fall out of my hand onto a tiled basement floor (concrete underlayment), a sidewalk, and a wood floor, that's a total of three falls...there is not a single scratch on it...it really can take a beating, however I can't say if the shock that the phone has absorbed has just been transferred into the innards..When I'm not dropping it I keep it isolated in my left pants pocket.

My Droid has been naked since the day I got, but it always has a pocket to itself. I never put anything else in that pocket with my Droid, and this is a habit I've used for years with all of my cell phones.

OEM Verizon Motorola Droid PREMIUM SHELL HOLSTER COMBO - eBay (item 150400155254 end time Mar-24-10 16:26:42 PDT)

I purchased this (click link above) case off eBay, and it works great. It comes in 3 pieces; one fits around the top part and one fits around the bottom of the phone. The 3rd piece is a holster with a clip to carry the phone. It offers complete protection for the edges on top and makes the phone feel very secure.

The case is a perfect fit and does not interfer with the sliding of the phone. It looks much better than the eBay picture and offers significant protection if dropped. Any of the three parts are worth the $11.88 price. Shipping is free and you get quick delivery.

It fits in your pocket very nicely without the holster. I don't think it will fit in most docking stations. There are some good pictures of the case at the bottom of the eBay ad.

I have a Motorola Droid and I went to cases.com and purchased a great case. It is $27, specifically for the droid, and it's worth it. The case it black leather and the droid slides into a clear plastic cover over the keys so you can slide to reveal the keys. There is a cushion flap that covers the screen and it keeps the droid safe. It's a life saver!:)

Naked except for screen protector so partially naked:p Still looks great have had for 2 1/2 mos now?? Still think its the best phone i have ever owned:D
