Root NAND Back-ups - How Many

Did you try deleting a few of your old nandroid backups? That's what did the trick for me, and I didn't see that mentioned anywhere else before I tried it.

i just moved all the backups except the one i am trying to use to my computer and it still doesnt seem to work ... there are no spaces. the names havent even been changed. is there something i could be missing that i could download or flash. i have restored before but i dont know what the problem is now... ugh :/

I wonder if moving the file is the problem. I've renamed mine using Astro with no problem, however I always leave them in the HTxxx folder that nand creates them into. I haven't checked but I assume that folder name is the serial number for my phone, perhaps it's doing some sort of a comparison between the HT folder name and the serial number on the device?? I'm just guessing, but try moving one of your non-working backups back to the HT folder and see if it works there.

Edit: OK, I misread your message. :)
But when you put them back do you put them in the HT folder?

when i rename em i just leave the date and time and put the name of the rom at the end and is a period ok to use like ex: EE3.0

I finally realized it was not necessary to have nand backups residing in my device anymore; I got rid of all of them along with all of the zip files of ROMs.

I've settled on the various settings I'd been experimenting with: overclocking and certain configuration settings.

If an updated version of xtrROM rolls out at some point, I'll likely create a nand backup to have temporarily as insurance when I flash the update; if something seems off about the update, I'll use the nand restore to bring it back to 3.0.3.

Makes sense if you know you are not going to be tweaking your phone anymore, and you are not a daily rom switcher.

I always kept the latest backup of every rom I tried saved in my computer, and only one backup of my current rom on my phone. This was incase i decided to tweak something or flash some add-on.

It is quite possible that the next spin of KaosFroyo (25?) will find its way onto my device, at which time I'll of course nand backup my precious xtrROM. ;)

..especially if the dev has a saying or two about squashed bugs, dealt with issues and such.

Same here i just hope the camera bug is fixed only bug i dont like and the camera magic app is crap

maybe a stupid question. How do you know what the backups are from? I have 3 of them and not sure what they are (meaning what back up they are). Anyone be able to help me?

First of all, if i'm not mistaken the first numbers are the date and time(military time) you made the backup. Dont have one in front of me, but you should be able to see the date when looking at it.

Also, you can rename them. So you can throw the name of the rom in the name... just dont add spaces or other symbols or it wont work when you try to restore it.

I would just keep them on my desktop in different folders. I had my Evil Eris backups in one folder, my Ivans 1.0 in another, etc.

Edit: just made a new restore and it is doing that fine so it must be something about that way i renamed the files... could it be that i used astro or that i renamed the file inside the file?

It's something about renaming. I only renamed the top folder and it broke. Untouched new backup worked fine. More testing needed.

* I renamed a renamed backup to something that seemed reasonable. HT9BCHG11105. No luck.

That HTblahblahblah folder is your phone-specific directory created by Nandroid and is where you backups will be stored. Do not rename that folder, or else Nandroid will not be able to find your backups. Within that folder, your backups will be named by the date/time they were created and whether or not you used the +ext option (BDS vs. BDES if I recall correctly?). You can rename these backup files to whatever you like, but don't include spaces or invalid characters. I believe dashes, underscores, and periods are fine.

does the HTxxxx... folder stay the same bc i renamed it a while back but then when i realized it wouldnt work i thought i was screwed but then i made a new backup and it reappeared. so i moved the ones from the old renamed folder back into the reappeared one. those are the ones i think that would not work. could that have been the whole problem?

I got confused because NAND restore will gladly show all the folders in /sdcard/nandroid. If you screw up and rename the your first HT.... folder then the next backup will recreate that HT.... folder and put the new BDS/BDES folder there. In my case the backups are in /sdcard/nandroid/HT9BCHG11106/.

Got that boys and girls? On your first backup do NOT rename the HT... folder. Rename the BDS... or BDES..folder.

so what is the process to reinstall one of the nand-backups.

Boot into recovery, select nand restore, select the backup you'd like to restore. About 5 minutes later your phone is booted up and ready for use looking like it did when you created the backup.
