Root Nandroid Backup Question

Hi Folks
Well i still havent plucked up the courage to ROOT yet, but i wanted to ask a quick question.

If i root my phone will i then have the option to perform a Nandroid Backup, im really not interested in Flashing Roms etc, i just want the ability to back up my phone so that if anything ever goes wrong and i have to wipe it i will have the ability to restore it to its former glory.

If this is possible does anyone know of a good guide to perform a Nandroid backup.

Boot the phone up in recovery move (hold down the vol down button and power up), use the vol down botton to select Recovery and then hit the power button again. Use the trackpad to scroll down to Backup and restore, push the trackpad to select, and you're in Nandroid. Select Backup (push the trackpad button) and off you go.

Wot ee sed. I found rooting a doddle with UnRevoked 3.21 - once I'd plucked up the courage. Give it a go Peter, it's well worth doing.
 
I didnt think you had to create a GOLD card anymore??, can i do away with this part and if so what will be the consequences??

And it was the backup i was interested in, have found plenty of guides on rooting.

I'd always make a goldcard regardless, in a belt-and-braces stylee. You never know when you might need it and it only takes 5 minutes. No drama.
 
DanFrance is probably in a better position to respond to this than me, but as I understand it, it acts as a "recogniser" between the phone and the stock ROM. So if you fritz your phone and need to re-flash a stock ROM (either to bring it back to a workable state or before sending it off for repairs) you'll beed the goldcard for the phone to recognise the ROM. Without it, the phone won't recognise the ROM, you won't be able to reflash and the phone will be terminally fritzed.
 
I did this just last week. Rooted with unrevoked and left the rom in place for the moment (waiting to get a larger SD card to partition for a2sd+ before I flash).

To make things simpler download ROM Manager from the market. There's a free and a paid option but it has options to reboot into recovery and to perform a Nandroid backup - both from its menu.

Yes, but only if your Rom was branded out of the box
