Root Nandroid Backup Time Stamps Decoded

Zoandroid

When we use Amon Ra Recovery to make a Nandroid backup, it typically stores the file on the SD card under Nandroid/mem=233 and has a name like:

BCDAS-20110424-0222

This is the year 2011, the month 04, the date 24, and 2:22 AM in 24 hour format. But here is the mystery for me.......

"Sometimes", like the one I just made on 4/23/2011 at 10:22PM EDT here, ends up with this time (and date if it carries through midnight) gets adjusted as if it is using GMT. That makes sense. But "sometimes" the time stamp actually gets used in the current EDT date and time when I make a Nandroid, and does not get adjusted for GMT.

Why is it not consistent?

Odd that yours would be using a time stamp even earlier than mine, if you just made it within the last half hour. I think the reason it is "past midnight" is the GMT thing. I am in Ohio, so GMT-5 hours, but we are on DST now so technically it becomes GMT-4. That jives well with my posted time above as the Nandroid I made was dated 4 hours into the "future". But I can't explain why yours would be LESS than the 02:22 time mine was made (unless you made it before I made mine).

Just out of curiosity, which time zone are you in?

Aside - I wonder how many of those 1 cent LG Ally phones Amazon is selling? :-) (ad at the bottom of the thread)

Ohh god I dislike the naming process of nandroids. Id create one and it would give me tomorrows date.. then if I make a couple in a day its confusing as shit but u sorted that out for me thx :p

It is perfectly OK to edit or even completely change the name of a Nandroid backup file. I have used several of mine with names I changed to indicate something more than the creation date/time.

It is my understanding that the programmer tied the file names to Greenwich Mean Time so here in the US we will see it as 5 to 8 hours 'ahead' of us (depending upon our location). But it doesn't seem to rub consistently on GMT.
