Root NANDROID Backup?

I downloaded the two things I needed from an "all-things-root" to do a NAND backup, and I press Vol Up + Home + Power and release at the LG logo, but it boots the phone, not the NANDROID screen.

What am I doin' wrong?

It's vol down - not up + and hold down until you see recovery.

what vicmarkus said. Also, I hold the button combo down through the LG screen until the recovery menu pops up, just to be sure.
