Root Nandroid FAIL?!? Help?

Sorry for what will surely be a re-post of an existing question (very slow dialup connection and can't really browse the forums), but my phone and nandroid seem to be failing and I'm preparing to leave the country

Background: I rooted my phone back in September with UnRevoked, stock rom and no other modifications. The phone has been stable right up until yesterday, at which point my DInc simply powered down. I did battery pulls, attempted to restart the phone...each time I did this I could get to my home screen, tap a few icons and the phone would then freeze. At this point I decided to go for broke and use my nandroid backup...

When I go through ClockworkMod, I make it through Checking MD5 sums, erasing boot before restore, restoring boot image and then to "Restoring System...." It's been about 3 hours now (I was told to be patient and wait a bit), but the phone seems to be stalled at "Calculator.apk" and hasn't made any progress since?

So my questions are 1.) How long should a nandroid recovery take? Is this stalled or just working to restore a lot of data and I should be patient a little longer 2.) If it's not just doing a lot of work, what should I/can I do from here to restore my phone to working order? haha I'm assuming I can't take a rooted phone that doesn't boot back to VZW for a replacement at this point? Annnnny help that anyone can provide would be most greatly appreciated at this point! Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like it's not working. You can try pulling the battery, then booting back into recovery. Do a wipe data/cache and try restoring again.

If it fails again, download a ROM and go to mounts -> mount USB and transfer your downloaded ROM to your SD card and just flash that. That way you will at least have a working phone.

Hey Necosino...thank you soooo much for the reply...I'm going to go and give both of those options a try in that order! I'll let you know what the results are as soon as possible! :-)

So I made it through the cache wipe, and the restore progressed but seems to have stalled out again at the same point...Calculator.apk? Is there any way to edit the nandroid backup to simply skip over the Calculator or should I go ahead and try a totally new ROM? Thanks again for your quick reply and all the help so far!!

UPDATE: I also tried using an older nandroid backup file I made right after I rooted my phone. It doesn't seem to be the calculator.apk as much as it seems to work on the backup and then quit half way through? (In this case it made it to SocialNetworkProvider.apk) Will this be a problem when I try to load a new ROM? Is there something else I should do to clear the memory for trying to restore my backup or load the new ROM?

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread at all, but wanted to mark the problem as being resolved. Turns out my problem was that my sdhc card corrupted somehow? (Still working on that one.) All I had to do was copy the nandroid backup file from my computer to a fresh sdhc card, adn voila, problem solved! Lost a months worth of data/apps/texts, but far better than having to replace the phone of course!

Thanks again to Necosino for his prompt reply and excellent advice! :-)
