Help Nandroid Restore Failed- How To Get Contacts Back

I have no way of knowing for sure, but based on OTA release dates (and the method used to downgrade to the eng bootloader), you probably had hboot 0.97. You can get it from here:

[ Radios ][ 12-17 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers

hboot links are at the bottom. Make sure you grab the 0.97 version. Flash it from recovery. You should also grab a flashable kernel zip, too. I don't have a HTC #15 kernel handy, so you can search xda for it (or I'll look if you have trouble). You'll probably need it since changing hboot versions generally breaks your current ROM until you flash a kernel. It's really a safety net more than anything. If you flash the different hboot version and can restore your nandroid backups, you won't need to flash that kernel anyway. You could also just reflash sprint lovers. You might want to get the normal recovery update zip instead of the PC36IMG.zip. You already have the latest radios, so no need to flash them again. If you need help finding any links, or if these instructions are not clear, let me know.

Ok I've d/l'd the .97 and also the 15 kernal version 7. Can you walk me through what I do now? Both files are zipped on my desktop. I really appreciate all your help.

That kernel you have is SBC, which is fine, but it will behave differently when charging. Read about it here:

Anything below this point, you do at your own risk. I take no responsibility for this bricking your phone. You're messing with things are more complicated that normal flashes. Most people have done these things with no issues, but proceed at your own risk.

If you want the actual stock kernel, we can find it later. This one will do for now. Copy both files to the root of your sdcard. You can do so by connecting your phone to your computer, then copying them to whatever drive becomes available. Don't put them in any folders (for sake of ease).

Turn the phone off, then turn the phone back on while pressing and holding the volume down button to get to hboot. Select the recovery menu option. Once in recovery, go ahead and wipe cache and dalvik cache (under advanced in clockwork). You probably don't need to, but it sure can't hurt. Select the option to install (or flash) a zip from the sdcard. Select the hboot 0.97 zip. Let it flash, and reboot if it prompts you to. Do not touch the phone unless you're back in recovery, and can reboot normally.

Once it is done, you should reboot back into recovery. Your ROM will probably not be bootable. Flash the kernel just like you did the other package. It will be simple, though. Once it is done flashing, just reboot. The system should boot up now. Assuming it does, reboot into recovery again, make a nandroid backup, then attempt to restore one of your older backups.

EDIT: Also, consider whether all of this is worth getting your contacts back. It's up to you. It *should* work fine, but I'm not making any guarantees.

That kernel is fine. Like I said, go ahead and read about what's different. Basically, it will trickle charge, but there are potential risks with using it. Right now, you just need something that will get your phone in a bootable state. It's fine for now, unless you actually want to keep it.

Akazabam- You are the MAN!!!! I got everything back the way it was! I can't thank you enough. One thing, the phone seems kind of laggy, slow to respond. Any ideas ?

Excellent :). Are you back on your old nandroid backup? If so, you're using the new radios with an older ROM, which would account for any instability/lagging, more than likely. I recommend you backup what you need, then flash sprint lover again. You can then restore everything, and the ROM should work fine. I was kind of wondering what would happen what with you having the newer radios. If it hadn't worked, I would have recommended you downgrade your radios. Now that it has worked, just do the easy thing and flash a new ROM, then restore your stuff.

Yes, I'm back on the Nandroid that I couldn't restore before. Ok do I do a Nandroid backup, is that what you mean? Or should I use Titanium for individual items?

Thanks

1) You should use titanium backup to get whatever stuff you want to save. You can use something like this to specifically backup contacts:

Contacts Backup Pro - Android app on AppBrain

2) What exactly do you want? Right now you have the radios that go with the latest OTA (3.70). Presumably, you're now on 3.29 (Go ahead and verify that, and let me know). To be honest, I'm surprised it boots up. Either way, you either need to downgrade your radios, or flash a ROM based on 3.70. I only said sprint lovers because it's what you had. It's basically stock with a few modifications. What do you want? Just stock, but 3.70?

Yep, you found the link for what I was going to suggest. If you ever want to flash themes, use the deodexed version. If you want as stock as you can get, flash the odexed version. Just flash it from recovery like any other ROM. You already have the latest radios, so don't mess with those. If you've made any changes, make a nandroid backup. Otherwise, go ahead and flash it, then restore your stuff.

Great- I'm going to leave you alone now. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your help and patience through this. You were a true Godsend!

No problem :). I'm glad you got it working. For future reference, just leave your hboot with the version you have now. If you want to go back to CM, there is no longer any need to downgrade to the eng bootloader.
