Help national access coverage not available....

I have had my phone since July when it came out. I have now been thru 3 phones (due to other issues). I have noticed getting the "national access not available" in the past but i have just looked over it and resent the message.. It normally works the 2nd or 3rd time around. However, now I am becoming annoyed. I am fed up w/ it. I have been reading several forums and questions and it seems that no one has found a fix that will work. I can say though, that with all 3 phones, regardless of what apps I am using or not, have downloaded or not.. it STILL does it. Battery pull after battery pull. Hard reset.. *228... It doesn't matter. Issue is still there. I had enough issues before with this thing and now that 2.2 came out my issues have expanded.. Then there is this issue that doesnt seem to matter which software is running... I'm at a loss and any suggestions anyone has would be very appreciative.

I'm in the same boat (as far as having tried everything)...I've rebooted, hard reset, battery pulled, dialed *228 numerous times and even dug into the programming menu and adjusted the min and max MMS size...and nothing has worked. At this point, I guess we should just keep hounding VZW until they can provide a fix.

I have to say, though, that this does not appear to only affect the Droid X. Googling "national access coverage not available" provides numerous threads about this error appearing on many different phones (it actually seems that Blackberries are getting this error the most, but that's just my observation).

**Edit: Actually, the Droid X now seems to be seeing this the most...but just a few weeks ago I saw a lot of results regarding blackberries when searching for "national access coverage not available." So, no, the DX isn't alone in this issue, but maybe we're seeing it more than other phones. Either way, I have to think it's Verizon, not necessarily Moto.

At first I tried fittling with data settings and that didn't work. Then after trying the airplane mode on/off and turning all data settings on, I got it to work again. Occasionally it still wont send pictures but that was because of photo size. Now mms will work to emails and I can get internet again. Apparently this is an issue because of the vzw data plan changing after the first few days of having activated. Hope this works for you too...

Among Android phones, this seems to happen only with Moto phones. My wife's phone is having this issue now. Nothing fixes it. Started happening after last week's update.

this thread seems to have died again. i have tried everything except factory reset. i got rid of juicedefender, task killer, power toggles, widgetsoid...

what does *228 do??

any updates with this issue?

*228 is used to program the phone (for Verizon users only?).

I tried the hard reset, *228 reset, Airplane mode (on/off cycling), and just about everything else that was suggested. After reading up somewhere that it may be an issue with advanced task-killer, I looked around to see if there was anything in particular that I'd shut off or altered.

Problem solved. My issue had to do with the way I'd changed my settings to prevent inadvertent 3G charges.

1) Settings
2) Data Manager
3) Data Delivery

Under Data Delivery, make sure the option of "Data enabled" is checked. Again, I know it won't be a fix for everyone, but it's worth a look if anyone else tweaked the phone there or worth some consideration if you have an external program to control 3G usage (specifically those that block it after reaching a certain point to prevent overcharges)

Hope it helps.

When i had this issue, I called customer service and the tech said he had to completly blow away my profile on their side and rebuild it. Took him about 5 - 10 minutes. After he did that i havent had this issue agian. This was about 3 - 4 months ago when he rebuilt what he called my profile on thier system.

I'll comment...still have this problem here for months. I to have called verizon. They could not fix issue, they even reset my profile like some have mentioned. They suggested hard reset. I have not done this bec I keep seeing mixed reviews as to if this works or not. A hard reset would suck...took me darn near 2 weeks to even figure out how to use this thing much less reboot the phone back to day 1? The thought of not being able to take a pix of a big snook and not be able to send it out via text, well sux.

Just experienced this problem today. Turning airplane mode on and then off worked for me. Didn't think it would, but sending pictures works for now.

As frustrating as this was when it happened to me last night, it's most likely your setting options. Go to menu>Data Manager>Data Delivery - then make sure that "Data Enabled" is CHECKED.

I felt really stupid because I remember unchecking this when tinkering with the phone and came across it. The entrance into this menu is prefaced with the ominous warning of inadvertently using an absorbent amount of bandwidth if you turn any of these functions on; so naturally the nubile droid user will turn it off to make sure they're not downloading information while roaming. If you turn it back on, that should work fine.

Get APN backup & restore I had to do a factory data reset the first time, download this app did a backup and 2 mouths later had to restore my apn been fine so for.

Like many of you I also was tweaking my phone the other day so save as much battery life on my Droid X and i unchecked data enabled :( I had not send a picture for days but texting was fine until today  Thank you for the solution :D:D

I just got this problem on my phone for the first time this weekend. I went through all of the trouble shooting steps posted here and none of them worked for me. Finally this morning I managed to fix it. Yesterday I downloaded a an APN toggle widget by curve fish and found that it was broken shortly after that. There is a setting in there when you run the app (not the toggle widget) to set up whether mms stays available when the toggle is turned off. I'm guessing I uninstalled it with this option turned off. I did the following steps after downloading the app again.

1. Restart the phone
2. Run the app
3. Push the button so that it says off ( no green light)
4. The the mms option on
5. Push the button so that it says on (with green light)
6. Try sending a pic message. At this point it worked for me.

Hope this helps.

Heh, what's a snook?

I have to share my fix, which I found on a different forum after searching things like "mms won't send". It turns out that one of the apps I installed to control my 3g data (toggle it off and on) changed my apn settings. So I too had the "national access coverage not available" every time I tried to send a mms. I tried everything; airplane mode, toggle wifi, update using *228, battery pulls. Nothing worked, not even once. But I installed the data switch by curvefish from the android market and set everything (meaning the apn) back to default using this app, rebooted my phone, and now I can send pic messages again. My phone is stock droid x, and I consider myself phone illiterate, so I was willing to try easy fixes that did not require a factory reset. I hope this helps someone else out.

My wife was having the same problem. Never had curvefish on this phone. We tried most of the things mentioned here with the exception of the hard reset and resetting the profile by calling the Verizon customer service person.

Finally she said here's how I'm sending the picture. I'm in the text message and press menu, select insert picture, then gallery, and select the picture. Then I type the message and send. It then fails with the "national access coverage not available" message.

I said I normally send pictures by pressing home, then go to the gallery, select the picture that I want. Then press menu, share, and select messaging. The picture shows up with a TO box above it and message text area below. She typed in the phone number of the same person as before. A text message and then pressed send. It worked. Try it and see if going about it my backwards way works. If so this could be a good clue for the tech support folks at Verizon.

Try turning your phone on airplane mode then back off. The message will load after your 3g comes back on. It has worked everytime for me

Nothing has worked for me. I only receive this message when trying to receive a picture msg. None of the above suggestions have worked.

This happened to me last week. I googled it, which led me to this thread and the airplane mode on/off method. It worked for me.
