Help Native email inbox barely visible

Whilst I love the native email, the black background and barely there grey writing in the inbox makes it barely visible in bright weather. The only way I can see it when in a car is to pop my head under my T-shirt. This makes driving a wee bit hazardous.....

Is there any way to change the inbox appearance?

I know this does not directly answer your question, but I dropped the in-built email client after trying K-9. That's black on white and easier to read.

I also think it's a better email client in other ways as well.

Plus, it has one invaluable feature that the native email client lacks, “delete from server“ (which to me is critical if I want to maintain sanity between desktop and phone).
