Navigation - Waypoint

When using Google Navigation, once the initial destination is locked in and the trip is planned, we get out onto the highway and drive. Along the way, we occasionally start running out of fuel, coffee, or need a rest stop.

How do I make an alteration during my trip, while on the freeway via some voice prompt, where I say something like, "need gas," or "closest McDonalds," or "rest stop?" There must be a simple way to stay on the primary route, while speaking a secondary route request into the S4 and have it immediately find the nearest <whatever I'm looking for> and put that in as some sort of waypoint, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to do this without pulling off the highway to alter navigation.

The way I do it is to run Mapquest to get the waypoint, then go back to Maps to finish the trip.

Is there really no way to do something so common and simple right within the stock Google Navigation software?
