NBA Champions 2010 - Lakers

Well I am a HUGE Lakers fan and ecstatic about yet another back to back championship but there is no way Kobe is the 2nd best player ever. There were 3 better than him on stage tonight alone. Kareem, Magic and Bill Russell who has 11 rings and 5 Finals MVPs He is arguably top 10 though. Here is my top 10 list in no particular order...

Wilt
Russell
Magic
Kareem
Jerry West
Jordan
Kobe
Bird
Dr. J
Shaq

I think we can start calling Kobe the second greatest player ever. I think we all know who is the first.

You gotta be kidding me

It's sad to see the youngsters of today not give the proper respect to players of the past just because they didn't watch them play.

At least the media has absolutely hammered the population into understanding the impact Jordan had on the game.

All time greats of the past have had WAAAY more impact on the league (in addition to rings):

- Bill Russell's ELEVEN rings and 25 rebound per game average in the playoffs? First African American Coach? First African American to be elected to the hall of fame?

- Wilt Chamberlain averaging 50 ppg for an entire season? and then following it up with 44 ppg the next?

- Magic Johnson / Larry Bird reinvigorating the game and saving the NBA from a complete depression?

C'mon man... just because the media cant get enough of Kobe's jock making Jordan comparisons doesn't mean he's had a greater impact on the league than these players

Thanks mbell75 :)

Kobe is great no doubt, but I'm glad you have your head on straight ;)

Yep. I will say one thing though. All those other guys are done and Kobe has another 4-5 years and a great core group of players around him. If he finishes with 6-7 rings and adds a few more MVPs, you can put him in the top 5 I think.

I've gotta agree 100% :D

I guess I've always thought Kobe was due for a season ending injury / old age slowdown but you've got a great point if he keeps winning championships hmmmm...

Just happy to finally meet someone who has the same understanding of the game and it's history =)

The Lakers are LUCKY they didn't play the Pistons. They are 1-8 against them in the Finals!!

Kobe is overrated!! It is ALL Jackson!!

Good game for the Lakers TEAM. But this only adds a number to Kobe's stat list - his performance was a below subpar. Please don't put him amongst the best. He was completely outplayed by the likes of Artest and Pau in GM7 of the Championship Finals that was suppose to define his legacy. MJ, Magic, Bird... they all had significant impacts on their respective teams beyond the 'give-me' free throws and rebounding.
Sorry to be such a hater - I do think the Lakers deserved to win that game. They had a great comeback, and really showed clutch near the end.

Are you high? Kobe is definitely one of the greatest to ever play. I'm not saying he's better than Jordan... but everyone is and does put him up against the best player of all time. Kobe had a bad game. He also had a great season and now he's got 5 rings to show for it. Don't tell me he's not one of the best. Learn the sport before you talk gibberish.
