You didn't ask for wonderful. You asked for basic. There are so many things you can sdo with a rooted Rom. Unrooting is such a waste.
Well with root access you can have a ROM that is faster and more stable that the stock one, allowing other people to fix bugs that google and HTC don't fix.
But of course its not all about the roms. You can back up your entire phone, like your pc and restore it exactly as it was, even if it was wiped. You can control CPU speeds to give further performance increases without wasting additional battery power or run it slower to save lots of battery.
You can control applications at start up and prevent them from doing some of the things they want to do. You can even update the radio to newer versions to get better network signal.
You can uninstall apps you don't want that are pre-installed on the ROM
Once you have this (and everything else at your fingertips) and allow the time to explore the posibilities, unrooting just doesn't make sense. You could have always got a rooted stock rom, then had the option to utilise it when you knew what it was you actually had.
The idea of all these fancy roms was good to start with but once installed didn't seem that great.
I tried various 2.2 stock roms but all of them were changed in some way that I didn't like. Also A2SD never seemed to work, I partitioned my SD card but nothing would even install on it and actually found my phones memory full up before I had even put my own apps back on.
If someone could link to a very basic rom and a good explanation of how A2SD is mean't to work (and not just a click move to card which most guides had) it would be appreciated.
This is very true & all valid points m8, i prefer the rooted roms for the same reasons.
More flexibility & the video frame rates appear improved with the hd format.

Yeah. plus I like not having to have sense. I'm on DeFroSt N1 port, interface is so customisable. I love my Navy blue Status Bar. Its the little things for me...

I think i'll try that leedroid 1.9. I tried a few roms with a2sd (and variants) installed but nothing would go to the sd card and left me with no room at all.
Not tried a non sense rom yet although i know they are faster than the sense ones, still there's still time for me to go that route yet.
Tempted to wait for the full modaco release as thats what the neophyte rom is based on & that is very stable & quick
To be honest, I'm cheating with an overclock kernel of 1305Mhz, so I'm getting usually over 1700. 1787 max. Someone on XDA reported 1890 or something, but not sure how much I can put my faith in that.
