Root Need a rom kernel combo

hortstu

Android Enthusiast
Need a rom and kernel combo download that will get this evo going again.

I'm really freaking out about this thing now. Reflashed the ROM I was using and still no response. Trying old nandroids too now. I think it's a brick.

Even really old nandroids are not getting the device working. I need some suggestions. Otherwise I'm out fo commission till tomorrow and need

stock rom and kernel download
unroot tool
s on tool
directions

Thanks to anyone that tries to help.

Can you still get into recovery?
And why do you want stock rom/kernel/unroot tool etc.
You no longer desire to be rooted?:(

Edit:
If so in post 2 of this guide, there are instructions for unroot etc.

Yes I'm in recovery now. Moving files to the card from my computer but none of them are getting the device to work. I might have to bring it back in to get it replaced and the tech told me to turn s on, put stock on it, and if it doesn't work they'll work with me so I dont have to pay full price.

I'd really like to get it working but I'm not hopeful at this point.

I reflashed mikG
tried a nandroid from january
wiped everything multiple times

still just frozen wallpaper and no response from buttons or screen.

now I'm trying an pc36img that was in my computer and I have no idea what it is. That's how desperate I am.

Gotcha, check my above post, I edited it with a link for unroot instructions or, if you prefer, I can link another rom but there are many...
Maybe your MikG rom zip is corrupted somehow.
But if the tech would like s-on, then see the link..(thanks ocn)

The pc36img must have been the stock rom kernel because it seems to be working now!

Now I'll try my nandroid

Is it possible that the pc 36img deleted my recovery? I just tried going into recovery from bootloader and got the red triangle. Do I need to reinstall a recovery?

It appears to be...what hboot do you have now.
I assume you are s-off?
If you are s-off, I can provide you with a recovery zip

i am still s off.

I have both recovery zips I think the nandroid I need was made with amonra.

Can I just rename the mikg rom pc36img and will that install amon with it or do I need to rename amonra pc36img and go that way? I don't remember what recovery came with mikG

No, don't rename the MikG zip..leave that zipped, you flash that from recovery as is. And MikG does not contain a recovery, that is separate on your phone.
If you have the AmonRa zip and renamed it PC36IMG.zip (no extra zip, windows hides file extensions), you can install that from hboot.
I usually use capital letters for that file (dont know if it matters)
Anyway, here is a good, known recovery zip for Amon ra..just rename it.

OK so I installed the amon copy I had and did that as a pc36img.

Then tried my nandroid and it sent me right back to square one. Here we go again.

So at least I know the path back.

I'm going to try that old nand I have and see what happens.

o.k...at least you got recovery.
Maybe a fresh download of mikg?

I was really hoping the nandroid I made before the freeze was going to work. I have so many things I'm going to have to extract from that nandroid and I really don't know what I'm doing.

I might try a different ROM. I've been using Mik for a long time now. I'd like an ICS but I don't think Mik makes one? What's an ultra stable ICS with everything working? I guess that's a question for another thread.

Yeah, I'm not a big ics fan, but thats just me.
I ran a rom, ics based, forgot what is was but I just remember a pink unicorn splash screen that came with it.
I recall another thread about a request for ICS rom....just search, and you will find, my friend:)

While I clicked thanks for every response I just want to reiterate that the help has been fantastic. If I didn't have knowledgeable people standing by while I went through this it would have been much more stressful. Thanks for being here.

now I'm having trouble getting device to recognize the recovery. Worked the first time. Removed it from device added it back on. It needs to be named PC36IMG.zip? Or should I leave it amonraPC36IMG.zip?

The first doesn't seem to be working.

I keep getting no image or wrong image.

I don't think I follow you. What happens when it doesn't recognize?
How did you remove recovery? Or did you remove the .zip? What worked the first time?--the install of recovery or the ability to boot into recovery.
Just needs the name PC36IMG.zip....that's it.

No I didn't think anything of the sort.

So I've tried a nandroid from after the problem started and one from january.

Both send me back to a brick.

The only thing I can do to get the phone working is load this pc36img that's the stock rom.

I haven't tried going from that to another rom yet. I'll be home in a few minutes and then I'll get back to a working device.

Thanks for the help.
