need advice about a windows phone

Ok so I'm on the fence about leaving android for a while and checking out the new windows phones that verizon maybe offering in the 4th quarter. I've had android phones from the og incredible to the new S3 (I've had about 10 phones) I've also tried apple but I don't like their business ethics so I won't own another one. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with windows phone's and what their opinions are on them. Thanks
 
my friend had one a while back and she hated it. it was slow and had serious lag. i can't remember which one, but it also looked cheap. curious to see what the windows 8 phones will look like.
 
The ball-n-chain and i have just switched to windows (not permanently, im sure :D). She has the titan 2 and i have the lumia 900. The only thing i hate so far is the complete lack of apps, its like WebOS all over agian :(. Some missing functionality seems to be coming in the new WP8 phones so that can't exactly be considered a negative. Customization is pretty limited as well, but thats a given.

Im personally looking forward to Samsung's phone because it has the biggest screen and an SD card slot. HTC's and Nokia's phones are pretty sweet on paper too though.
 
Yea that new Nokia and HTC Windows phones look good. I'm a sucker for yellow and both are yellow lol.

Kool Kat when you say lack of apps what are you referring to in general?
 
I may be exaggerating a bit, i just didn't find certain equivalents for some apps. There's no Chase app, for example. There are plenty of games but I'm not too big on phone games. I haven't found a good kid app like zoodles, the YouTube app is the mobile site..... I guess I'm just being nitpicky but i like my convenience and optimized apps lol.

Another thing, i like that all i had to do to sync my music was plug and click. It was so hassle free.
 
I can only go off my experience with my partners Lumia 800 that she had... worst OS on a phone I've ever used, honestly the phone would have been better with Symbian on it.

Firstly the customisation that you've come to know and love from Android, forget about it cos there isn't any... at first those snazzy little tiles look great but then the whole thing gets boring quickly and people remark how slick it runs but there is hardly any detail in the UI, all black backgrounds with white text.

The app store is threadbare and what it does have is overpriced.

No bluetooth, you can't even share files with a phone that is the same.

Settings like MMS can be made very difficult to get and work due to Microsoft not allowing push messages from certain carriers, even T-Mobile didn't know how to get it working on my wifes Lumia.

While this might not be a concern to anyone getting a windows 8 phone, anyone who had just got a Lumia on a two year contract will tell you that Microsoft wont think twice about stopping updates for older phones (two weeks old in our case) which for me was unforgivable, Nokia then slashed the price in half which meant I got
 
Yea I know Windows is going to be a crazy chance and I'm only looking at getting a Windows 8 phone nothing earlier bc I know they are a lil problematic. I think I just maybe burnt on android and need a chance of some sort. I'll definitely spend some time in the Verizon store messing with it before I buy and then if I don't like it I can return it for a droid razr hd :)
 
like I said they may have made 8 a lot better, will be interested in seeing what people think of it as most people who get it will be android and BB converts.

My Brother loves his xbox and he swears by the phone for it's compatibility with that, doesn't really bother with apps or anything so it's perfect for him.. for my wife she was constantly using my asda app and things like that were there is no alternative on Windows.. at least with 8 you will be able to use all the apps, people on 7.5 wont be able to use the newer ones.
 
Yea that why I'm gonna look and download a lot of apps on the demo one at Verizon lol. If they have the basics then I'm good like a movie show time app, food finding app flash light app craigslist and Facebook I'll be ok oh and a photo app lol.

What about the customization that I love from Windows 7 on my PC... :(
 
Sorry Ari but the metro (don't think it's called that now) interface is the only thing you can use. You can have a picture of your choosing on the lock screen and you can change the colour of the tiles but that is it.

No wallpaper? Even iPhone has wallpaper.
 
Same here, I'm actually looking forward to something other than an android phone. Its madness I tell you.... To tell you the truth, the lack of customization still hasn't phased me at all. I really.... Like? The metro UI. Everything is uniform for the most part which I like.

I don't like uniformity.
 
Just a personal opinion, I wouldn't touch a windows phone after owning android.

Go into the store and ask questions with plenty of time to play with it. If it suits you, buy it. :)

I know nothing about the new windows os on smartphones. It's locked down like apple and doesn't support flash that I know of (I could be wrong).

My phone does what I need it to do, I have no plans of replacing it and even bought a couple of spares of the same model as back ups. :)
