Need advice from current Thunderbolt owners

Verizon is offering me any of the 4g phones to upgrade to since my Droid X is giving me issues and they don't know a fix for it. Can you help me decide if I should go with the Thunderbolt? How's everyones battery? I'm not a real heavy user. Wondering if I can get through a day on 1 charge at least. Any input helps. Thanks in advance!

You can get through a day with light usage on the stock battery for sure. I only have experience in a 3G area but with my stock battery I got around 8 hours.

For medium and heavy use, get the extended battery. I get 20 or so hours now. I heard using WiFi helps save battery too.

Just to clarify...my use on average consists of probably under 25 txts per day, light web browsing since I sit in front of a computer all day anyway, and checking email and facebook every no and then.

You should be able to get 12 hours out of it with your usage. I do what you do except with a lot more web surfing and and I get about 12-13 hours. Keep in mind I use a 1700mah battery instead of the stock. I also elmiinated all other background syncs except for gmail, calendar and contacts. However, I do leave 4g on all the time.

Sound light to me! However I suggest you set Facebook to sync manually, or less often. That will help battery life. When you get your Bolt, experiment with different power setting to find what works for you.

I only plan on syncing facebook manually. I don't care to get notified by facebook at all. I don't use any widgets on my X. I'm pretty basic. I might check out a you tube video every now and then but it's rare. I mostly just use it for getting my email, texting and light web use. Knowing what you all know now after having the thunderbolt for a while....would you buy it all over again if given the chance or go with something like the charge?

That sums up my usage, too, and I get 12-14 hours out of a charge from the stock battery. I rarely turn on 4G unless I am downloading something.

Snerch...That doesn't sound too bad. Did they add the 3g/4g toggle in the last update?

Dylo22...where did you get the 1700 mAh battery?

I would get this phone again for sure! I love the big screen. I prefer Sense UI, and I actually use the kickstand alot.

The latest update added CDMA only or CDMA+LTE setting.

Sounds good to me. Thanks for all the replies guys. I have to give verizon an answer on Monday so if you think of anything else....either a pro or a con, please let me know. I'll check back now and then before Monday. Thanks again!!

With your plans for manual syncing and what not, you should be just fine with the TB.

I would consider myself to be a much heavier user that you and can get through a day without having to charge. Unless I am stuck in a waiting room for hours.

I swapped a dinc 2 for my tbolt and am glad I did. I will say up front, that mine is rooted, which helps a a lot on battery life. I rarely use 4g (I got it mostly for the large screen) and I can go 24 hrs. on light to moderate usage. I toggle mobile data on and off as needed and keep all syncing to manual. I could imagine it going for a full day (8-12 hrs) stock. My tbolt has been stable as well, not one reboot in a week of ownership.

Just got my thunderbolt today. Like it so far but one question...is there no stock app to view files on my sd card? Do I have no choice but to download a file manager?

HTC doesn't include a file manager on Sense 2.X unfortunately but astro is probably the best free one from the market. I personally use root explorer, but thats requires you to root your phone. It gives you access to the phones file system as well.

Ok so there's no file manager pre installed but where do my downloads go. Shouldn't there be a download icon where all of my apps are?

Yep...got astro and it works great. I was just asking because I was checking out my in-laws incredible 2's and they have a stock download shortcut in the app drawer like my droid x had but I don't see it on the thunderbolt. Was that added with gingerbread on those devices maybe?

I use ES File Explorer as a file manager. Astro is also excellent. What exactly are you looking for? The folder where the files get downloaded to? All your installed apps are in the app drawer which you can pull open by clicking on the little arrow up icon on the bottom left side of the home screen.

It's almost like another app. It shows up with all the other apps but it's green and is just called downloads. I've had it on the x and the incredible 2's have it. Those are all I've had a chance to mess around with so I'm not sure what other phones have it. It seems to be just a shortcut to where all of your downloads go. By downloads...I mean pdf's, pictures you save from the web...those kind of things.

That sounds like a shortcut to the downloads folder. The TBolt doesn't have that but you should be able to add it.
