Need advice on an Android table

My dad bought this terrible tablet, the Pandigital Nova. He hates it because it's so slow and clunky. I even had to root it just to get the Play Store on it. And I've finally convinced him to get rid of it.

But this is where I need some help. I'm not very smart about tablets so I was wondering what's a good tablet to get? Preferrably with a maximum price of $200. The HTC Evo View 4g looks pretty good to me, but like I said I know little about tablets. I know I love HTC phones and my 2 Evos (OG and LTE) are incredible so it's a name I trust. Can I get anything better than this?

I would suggest getting the Google Nexus 7, it is such a beast of a tablet, it is 235$ though, hopefully you can go up to that price, it is such an awesome piece of technology!

The new Google Nexus tablet is super fast with the new quad core Tegra 3 processor. You can decide upon an 8 or 16GB version and it comes with the latest Android OS 4.1 (Jelly Bean) installed. The screen is a 1280x800 HD IPS display which has a durable scratch resistant glass. With the Nexus you get access to both Amazon and Google Play's App stores.

Additional feature include; Microphone, NFC (Android Beam), Accelerometer, GPS, Magnetometer, Gyroscope, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 1.2MP front-facing camera, and the battery life lasts up to 8 hours.

Hope this helps :)

Nexus 7 or the new Kindle Fires. Don't buy generic tablets. Browse the forum for all the issues people have with them.

I have the Nexus 7 and my wife got the Kindle Fire HD. Both are great tablets. If you can up your budget a little you will not be disappointed.

After checking out the Evo View and the Nexus 7 side by side I might still have to go with the Evo View. They seem to be almost equal. Where one lacks the other prevails. The Nexus 7 does seem to have more root support, but since it's for my dad I don't think that will matter much.

You get what you pay for.

A good device, and around three or four times more expensive than that Shenzhen Pandigital thing. Another one to consider is the Nexus 7.

Nexus 7 is straight from Google so you can expect timely updates, less bs software etc... N7 for the win!

If its for an older person, I'd stick to the branded ones and not Nexus. Its just me, but branded ones have a lot more features built in and work together (based on TouchWiz experience on both tablets and phones). Older people are less techy, and well, while the Nexus do get the latest updates, they tend to also experience more change and faster evolution which usually doesn't sit well with older persons.

Updates and whatnot are fine with my dad. He knows his way around Android. Now he says he wants a big screen so he can read his digital comic books. Are there any good ones with a BIG screen?

Well the 10 inch Nexus 10 was just announced today. Obviously none of us have one yet, but on paper it looks a serious contender.
