Help Need advice

Downloaded an app called Gingerbreak, guess it roots your phone. Now a friend told me never root your phone through an app and the phone reset itself and its back to new.

My about phone menu is now saying:
android version 2.2.2
kernel version 2.6.32.9 (didn't have before the reset)

Soooo my phone reset, but I still have the Superuser app that I guess came with the Gingerbreak root. Idk if my phone is still rooted or not, but I still have the Cynogenmod ROM I was trying to install. But now I can't go into recovery mode to actually install the rom from the sd card using ROMmanager from the marketplace. I still want to use the rom but idk if my phone is able to atm haha

First thing, Don't use Rom manager!! it will brick your phone. In the android market search for root checker basic. It will tell u if you are rooted or not.

If you are rooted, next thing you need to do is install a custom recovery. This will let you make Nadroid backups, and install roms.
