Root Need Help/Advice Backing Up My Play Before Unlocking The Bootloader

Bit of an android noob, but basically I want to unlock the bootloader so that I can remove some of the bloatware that came preinstalled as I'm sick of the 'low on space' alert permenantly being up, and also having useless icons in my app draw >.<

I have been using my phone for around and month and have spent most of that time purchasing apps / customising the device so that I'm happy with it.
From what I understand, unlocking the bootloader requires you to wipe the device, so how to I back absolutely everything (apps + settings) up? Thanks for your time

I'm in the same boat as you. I want to do a full backup first.
I have hundreds of games on my iPhone and I'm addicted to downloading.
So far I don't think the android is an average user friendly OS.
A lot of stuff you need to download then install. Some things you just download. The average Joe will not figure this out.
I also Need a way to stop in app purchases. Does anyone know how? My kids like to play with my phone and they are to young to know not to buy things in the games like tap tap.

You don't have to unlock the bootloader to uninstall bloat, just root with Gingerbreak.
See my post in the all things root section.

You only need to unlock the bootloader to install custom roms.

Thanks DeadlyDazza, the process still flashes the phone though doesn't it, so I still need to back everything up first - just copying the contents of the SD isn't going to be sufficient is it?
Also why not just unlock the bootloader if I'm going to root anyway?

No, it doesn't flash the device. You're just gaining root access, and I've never heard of anyone having any problems with Gingerbreak.

You only need to unlock the bootloader if you plan on installing custom roms later such as VillainRom or Mocado, which tbh I did it all before with my Hero & don't think I can be bothered with it all now.
I'm happy with the Xplay UI & want to keep the bootloader locked for SE's updates and possibly 'Ice Cream Sandwich'.

Thanks perfect, rooted it today :) Just about to remove apps, anything I should avoid if I want any updates to work (wanna get rid of timescape)?

Also, it's unnecessary to have bloat freezer installed the same time as titanium backup isn't it?

If I root and remove say the FIFA game can I get it back without buying it? By restoring to factory settings. the reason I ask is because I want to remove some stuff but would like then option to restore it and start over if I want.

Thanks

I can't confirm it works with games specifically as I've never tried, but you can back up and restore every app using titanium backup once rooted

With Titanium, best to freeze apps to test the impact, rather than uninstalling. Stock apps can be harder than expected to reinstall, even using Titanium. Games can be zapped, but others apps are best to freeze first and test the water. If no problems after freezing, zap them if you want extra device storage.

I may just do it anyway. I can't believe the headache it is to manage memory on this thing. Sony should have given us more space. I'm going to get a bigger card and a new charge cable for work.

Go to settings, general, restrictions, and restrict in app purchases :)
