so im thinking about getting this phone from straight talk. and unlocking it(to use with other carriers).
is this possible with it being straight talk branded?

I think you're in the wrong forum. This forum is for the CDMA version I believe.

Anyway, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're referring to the GSM version. And yes if you have an unlocked GSM phone you can take it to whatever GSM provider you want.

Both the Straight Talk and Net 10 GS2's are GSM phones that can be unlocked for use on GSM carriers such as ATT and T-Mobile. You will not be able to use it on Virgin though because they use CDMA and have a policy of not activating outside phones.
