Need help choosing an ics rom

Hi all I need some help, I am wanting to update my phone with the new icecream, my phone is currently rooted and I am running gingerbread.
I have no idea what I am doing so some detailed guidance would be much help.
also the software the new s3 has is that icecream too? if not what is it, and is it possible to have that on the s2.
I would like to keep my root and not lose anything from my phone.
please help thanks in advance.:D
 
Did you root it yoursef ? If so you have some idea of what your doing. Anyway all I can do is tell you all you need is here, read and read some more. The advice here I'm sure will answer most if not all your questions.

As for which ROM to use, well its down to what you want really. There are many with bells and whistles, there are nightly builds of some which are in a permanent beta stage. There are some that are basically stock Samsung firmware but allow different settings and tweaks.

I'm not trying to be funny when I say read and read some more, really it is the only way to learn.

Since you are rooted you cannot update via Kies. However you can update manually via Odin if you wish to go for a stock Samsung ICS ROM. See posts #1 and #2, here.

To update via Odin, pay careful attention, but not exclusively, to the section entitled, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!", in post #1. The latest ICS firmware is, currently, LPG providing that you want an English/European language.

This will un-root your phone as you will be flashing the stock kernel that comes with the stock ROM.

Since you have already rooted your phone once, this will act as a refresher for you to re-root again. Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide.

There are other methods of moving to ICS, using custom ROM's and flashable .zip files but I would not recommend them for the reasons laid out in post #1, here.

The SGSIII was released with Android 4.0.4 and it is not a simple matter of copying the firmware from it to the SGSII as they are entirely different handsets. However, many custom ROM's claim to offer some of the features of Android 4.0.4 and you can obtain some of the app's from the SGSIII from here and here for your phone after you have updated to ICS.

I would now suggest grabbing a coffee or a beer and start reading up on those links, thoroughly and carefully as you have a lot to learn and there are no shortcuts I'm afraid.
 
thanks for pointing me in the right direction when I get a chance I will make my phone great 1 thing I want to know is will it wipe my phone putting a new rom on? thanks
 
ok so I downloaded the lpg, I want to put jkay on it and siyah and also put s-voice from gs3, do I do a full wipe first then load all on.

can you also please tell me what s-suggest is?
Also would like to put some s3 wallpaper, is there something I must do to make all these things work on my s2

oh and can you tell me which jkay I need to download I have

Slow down tiger!

My motto is... "Flash in haste... repent at leisure!"

First, I would recommend, as you are rooted, a Titanium and nandroid backup's, to your external SD card, followed by a Full Wipe as per Hawker's excellent post, here.

Then install LPG firmware. After you have checked that LPG is up and running OK you will need to root your phone again. The you can install the Siyah kernel after you are rooted. Next, install the JKay framework after wiping cache and Dalvik cache. You can also download the JKay DeLuxe Settings app from the Play Store.

Details of S-Suggest are here. Personally, I have not bothered with it. It basically allows Samsung to suggest app's to you.

The wallpapers in the earlier link are .apk files and can be installed as per any .apk file. Copy and paste, or download, on to your SD card and navigate to the file using a file manager and click on it to install, making sure that you have Unknown sources checked in Settings > Security.

The above is being replaced, you say, by a stock LPG ROM you mentioned. So you will need the odexed JKay framework for LPG... not forgetting to download, but not install, the odexed LPG JKay Restore file, in case you need it in future. See JKay FAQ's, here.

The SGS3 camera has different hardware/sensors to the SGSII.

sorry little confused I need to wipe then put lpg on how do I put the lpg on never done this before so have no idea, i will follow the guide to wipe but how to put new lpg on? sorry to ask I feel silly!:o

sorry to be a pain but i am going to run hawkers nuke so i put on the external sd and put into recovery, then run and then do I have to put lpg onto the sd as well or do i plug in to pc to do odin, sorry don't wanna f*%* my phone.

LPG is on your computer and flashed via Odin, as per the link in post #9, which gives you a step-by-step, guide, with full video instructions.
 
omg why is it in another language I downloaded and installed the lpg you told me too in post 4. i need english I can not install as I don't know the language it has installed in please help asap please

Go to the Settings icon... a picture of a cog (Settings).

Go down 14 items and select the square picture with the letter A on it, (Language and input).

Go to the first item in that menu, (Language), and select the language you require.

One tip I will give you when rooting, flashing or modding...

Read, read and read again!

oh no what have i done it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again please help!!!! omg can't do anything

should I just use odin again and try to put the lpg on again? its cause i tried to install siyah the wrong way and disconnected my phone while in download mode crap please help

i fixed it yay!

when in cwm mode I cannot select anything why is this happening grrrrr please help frustrated.

I have put the gs2wiper and the siyah on the sd ready to make it work but this is pissing me off cause I can select nothing on the cmw menu grrrrr what can i do

i have installed siyah and next i will attempt to put jkay on tomorrow thanks all xo
