Help NEED HELP!!! Does skyrocket work on t-mobile 3g/4g network?

I just got a new Samsung Galaxy s2 skyrocket as a gift, It is unlocked and I'm currently using it on the Tmobile network. The problem is that I can't access the 3G or the 4G and it's just using the EDGE for data access. which is sad for such a powerful phone.

I read around and find out that this phone does not support the Tmobile band 1700/2100... is that true? and if so, is there a way to change the software or hardware of the phone so i can receive and send on these frenquencies??? if not, i'll just sell it and buy a phone compatible with Tmobile stupid network frequency.

your help is greatly appreciated :D
 
I don't believe so, as you would need a completely different radio and in this case processor.

T mobile version of the skyrocket is t989, it uses an exynos processor by Samsung.
 
I was in the same boat with my old unlocked HTC Desire, which was actually a European market model. It had the GSM bands to work on the AT&T network as a phone, but Edge was all I could do for data. It would have been the same with TMobile.

AT&T and T-mobile are using incompatible 3G/4G bands, so that phones would not work across these two networks. However, some radios are programmable.
