Root Need help flashing new kernel, please.

Hello,

I have a HTC DNA with Verizon. Just the last few days my battery has been draining like crazy. I've done a few factory resets and downloaded GSam Battery Monitor. I've also researched various forums for similar problems.

It looks like there's an issue with the kernel and it seems kind of common. I'm really not good at things like this and I have no idea how to flash the kernel to fix it.

Is there anyone who would be willing to walk me through it or direct me to an easy to use tutorial?

My phone isn't very old and there's no damage to it and should still be under factory warranty but I had to upgrade a line on another account and transfer the device to my account so I could keep my unlimited data plan. That being said, Verizon won't honor my factory warranty. If I can't fix it myself, my only other option would be an insurance replacement and I'm afraid I'll get a crappy refurbished device.

Any help you can offer would be sooo greatly appreciated! Thank you.

welcome to AF!!!!!!!
is your phone is rooted? you can't flash a kernel unless you are rooted.

No, it's not rooted. I could research how to do that but I just don't want to damage my phone. This battery issue is ridiculous though so I'm willing to try anything.

The main kernel has kept my phone awake for the entire time it's been unplugged for all of 2.5 hours and I'm at 25% battery :/

I tried to post a screenshot but it doesn't look like it's showing up.

ok then if you plan on rooting then may i suggest that we move this thread to the DROID DNA - All Things Root - Android Forums ? you will get better help there.....let me know and i can move it for you.

That would be awesome. I'll check those out. Seriously, thank you so much.
 
One thing though. If you have taken either the update to software version 2.04 or 2.06 you are not going to be able to root, therefore unable to flash a kernel. The only way to achieve root then would be to send your phone away to have j-tag performed on it. That will cost you about 45 dollars.

If you do have the updates and are not willing to spend that money, have you tried doing a factory reset?
