Root Need Help Installing SuperUser by Koush

I recently rooted my nexus 5 at android lolipop 5.0.1 and used NexusRootTool Kit , which by default installs BusyBox Free and SuperSU. SuperSU wasnt working with the apps i tried to install therefore i tried removing it via is clean-up option with another SuperUser app which was Superuser By Koush. After i rebooted my phone to completely uninstall SuperSU,The superuser was telling me to update its binary, which had option to either do it by recovery method or cancel , i tried doing it with the recovery method which just got my phone stuck for a while which i then cancelled. So now when i turn on my phone and open BusyBox it says There was a problem opening a shell with root access. So is there a way i can install Superuser Properly or Can i Root my phone via NexusRootTool again with SuperUser this time? And Yes I am new to the stuff so please be as simple as possible.

Happy holidays to you and welcome to the forums . I need to as did you root your device . can you get into recovery if so just flash a supersu zip for the lollipop and let it update with the play store . but as I said get the lollipop by chainfire .

Thank You and Happy Holidays to you too.
Could you please specify a little more step-wise or leave a tutorial on how to do so cuz that be great (im a complete newbie in these things lol).

Hi @ibulletproof and welcome aboard. :)

I'm not sure if the NexusRootTool Kit installs a custom recovery, but you'll need one to be able to flash the superuser.zip file for Koush's SU. The ToolKit you used may have an option to flash a recovery. Otherwise you'll need to do it on your own. I'm personally a fan of TWRP. You should be able to download the image file and flash it (either via the Tool Kit (again, I'm unfamiliar with the one you used) or else with fastboot).

I'm also going to move your thread to the Nexus 5 forum so that other users can help you out. :)

Good luck!

@codesplice Well to be specific ,i used Nexus Root Toolkit v1.9.9(http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/)which by default installs a TWRP if The custom recovery option is checked.*EDIT*I had not selected the custom recovery option when i had rooted mine*
As Shown in the picture.

Never used a root kit always have done it manually. Nexus is so simple to root no need for a kit really besides. If a kit screws up how you going to fix it? Thats why I do things manually much easier for me to fix. the easiest way in my opinion is to fastboot the recovery image over to the device.

fastboot flash recovery your_recovery.img

Your boot loader must be unlocked before the above command will work. You also need to be in the bootloader to run fastboot commands.

Well,Not to sound stupid but where should i put the command u said (like i said be4 i am completely new to this). It ll be easy if u tell me i can hit root again this time with Custom recovery checked and it might work?

that is certainly a possibility.

as far as using the commands you will need to have the nexus hooked up to the computer and in a command prompt use the above commands but you must have adb/fastboot installed in your system or you will get a command not found error. More on adb can be found here in this thread:

I would urge you to learn to do things manually. Knowing how to flash things on your own can save you headaches with third party apps that do not perform as expected. And since you have one of the easiest devices to root. Its really simple to learn.

I've never used it, but I have at least heard of Wug's toolkit. It's supposed to be pretty good. :)

You should be able do hit root again with Custom recovery checked and it will work. :thumbsupdroid:

I've personally found better luck using SuperSU on 5.x for my Nexus 4. You may want to be sure to grab the latest release (http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu) and flash that once you get recovery going.

Well i did root it again and still get the error of superuser binary update and when i open busybox free still get the error opening root access and it suggests me to remove superuser/supersu persmissions or uninstall this application and then regrant permissions for this application.

Did it at least successfully flash the TWRP recovery?

If so, download the latest SuperSU flashable .zip from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu onto your phone. Turn your phone off, and then press-and-hold the Volume Down and Power buttons until the phone boots into the bootloader. Press the Volume Down button to scroll through the options until you see Recovery Mode, and then press the Power button. That should drop you into the TWRP recovery environment. From there, you can tap Install, browse to the SuperSU .zip you downloaded, and flash that. That should get you up and going with a working root.

Once root works, you can install busybox with the free Busybox Installer app. :thumbsupdroid:

@codesplice Lol This thing is getting way outta my league , cuz now the Root Checker App is showing i dont have root access, is there a way i can undo it back to normal and have a fresh start rooting it manually like @argedion suggested? This well prevent my phone from further problems like the ones i am having now...

just keep in mind that you need to make sure the bootloader is unlocked ALSO NOTE UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER WILL REMOVE ALL USER DATA.

Unlock the bootloader with fastboot

fastboot oem unlock

after the command has run reboot the device to the bootloader then flash recovery. Once you have recovery your options are limitless You can just go ahead and flash a Custom ROM which will already be rooted. Or just stay with the factory image and have it rooted. I'm suspecting that the boot loader is locked and this is why you are having so much trouble.
