i want to overclock my epic. Ive never done this before but Im a quick learner. I want it to be as fast as i cant get it but remaining stable and reliable at all time. can you guys give me some direction here? will i need a to install a rom? or just kernel? or both ? can you help me narrow this down? i searched buy came up with too much scattered info. thx in advance.

after i install a kernel, if i dont like it. how do i remove it? do i have to restore my phone ?

in general you can just flash another kernel on top, and it will replace it. but it is good to make a nandroid backup before you do that, so in case it doesn't boot up right, you can just restore back.

can i flash the stock kernel back? and can i do this without restoring my phone? will i loose my phones info?

i don't know if you can flash just the stock kernel back... you can definitely flash back to stock, but yeah, that will usually be a total reset of everything. i'd say the best thing to do is everytime you go into Clockwork to flash a rom or a kernel, do a backup so that if you don't like what you flashed, you can always revert right back to EXACTLY what you had before, data and all.

ive made nandbackups or whatever they are called. but ive never restored to one. will my home screen layout and apps still be on the phone like i had it before?

yeah, that's what's great about 'nands'- they are basically an exact copy of how your system is now.
