Root Need Help!! (Root Not Successful)

Ok I decided to finally root and followed every single step necessary. Did all the steps, including the pre root. Everything was going good. Was running Unrevoked and following all the steps as they appeared. On the Unrevoked screen on my cpu, it said it was Done. But on the phone, I got this:

Clockwork Recovery v.2.5.0.1

- reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-nandroid
-partitions menu
-advanced

SD card mounted

Installing Data:local/unrevoked-forever.zip
Installing update

unRevoked forever S-Off patch v1.1

Verifying system type...
E:unsupported radio version
E: update failed. Check sdcard/soff.log
E: error in data/local.unrevoked-forever.zip (status 42)
Installation aborted
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to sdcard/clockwork/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.

And there's a triangle with a yellow exclamation point in the middle of the screen. I am brand new to this and have no idea what's going on.

Thanks to anyone who can guide me through this!!!

You need to download unrevoked forever, put the zip on your sd card and flash it. This has been an ongoing issue with unrevoked 3.22.

Thanks! So what step do I need to do from this screen??

And stupid question but where on my sd card do I put the file and what does flash it mean? Just running it?

Just put it in the root of your sd card, which is the very top, not in any folders, so you can find it easily.

Flash it means to basically install it from recovery. Hold the volume down button while powering the phone on and it'll take you there, then you can select to run a zip from sd card and then pick the zip you just put there. :)

Good luck!

Place the file directly on your sd card. Not in any folder. Once you do that power the phone off. Then power back on holding the volume down button and power at the same time. That will load bootloader (white screen with little androids on skateboards) . Then use the volume buttons to navigate and power button to select. Select recovery. When that loads, select install zip from sd card. Select the unrevoked forever zip. Press power to confirm and let it load. Once its done it will say complete and then reboot. You will then be fully rooted.

I think he wants to know what to do at the yellow triangle...

If he hasn't figured it out yet I think a battery pull will get you back to where you need to be to continue.

Ok I'm a little confused right now. I download the program Unrevoked 3 and it saved it as reflash package. When I put that in my sd card, it didnt find it on the Bootloader when I chose the option you guys said. Is there a step I'm missing? Should I extract the files and then put that folder?

Thanks.

Yeah I figured it out. I just rebooted it and it took me back to my regular phone screen after I hard resetted.

But now I have a new issue. If you could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Well extracting the reflash zip to where it becomes a folder did not work, either. It can not find that Unrevoked file for anything. So until I get this fixed, I'm stuck with how the phone came out the box when I bought it, which is usable. But I really want to get this done and get to customizing.

If you put the file right onto the sd card and not into a folder then you should be able to find it yourself to flash it. Don't hide it somewhere where you can't find it.

I am. I just drop it right in the L directory to where it's not in any folder at all. I downloaded it and it's called reflash package. Well when I drop it in there, it doesn't find it at all. Nothing by that name. Then if I extract the files and it creates a folder and I drop that, it finds that folder, but not the unrevoked file inside of it. I have no idea what's going on.

The ROM and Kernel that I flashed last night were both .zip files. I'm thinking it still needs to be a zip file.

So what do I need to do. I believe it is a zip file I think. I am using the guide here and go to that site and download the Unrevoked for Windows. When I drop that in and do those steps said in here, it is not finding it.

Now that I'm downloading again, it's a .exe file. Is this why the phone is not picking it up, as its not a zip???

Wait, so this install can not be undone? That's the message I'm getting. If for some reason I wanted to unroot, I can not using this method?

Yes you can reverse it. You would have to flash the s-on tool prior to unrooting. Unrevoked forever has been included in unrevoked reflash since the release of unrevoked 3. There is a problem in unrevoked 3.2 when it flashes it. So flash unrevoked forever and you will be fully rooted.

Ok that was succcessful. But it does not feel like I am rooted. I still can not remove any of the bloatware. And in the Apps section, there is one called Superuser Permissions but when I click on it, nothing comes up at all.

Do I have to do the first step again, where I run the unrevoked from my cpu or what?

Nothing will show up in the super user app until you grant a root only app su permissions. Cjexl out the rooting for dummies stick and it has a tutorial on how to remove the bloatware.

I don't think it works like that. You don't just uninstall them like you would anything else. Look around in the Rooting For Dummies thread about bloatware and do what it says.
