Root Need help rooting Droid 1 (Desperate)

Hi guy's i recently have been trying to root my phone for about a week now and it's really annoying and fustrating. I had OG DROID 1 for awhile since it first came out. My phone had broke so the insurance company sent me a refurbished one. The phone came with android 2.2.1 with the FRG83D build. I rooted my phone using Superone click and it put the super user icon in my app drawer. I tried to flash my phone with a ROM using ROM manager and recover ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1. When the phone download the rom to install it, my phone simply resets itself it goes to the motorola symbol, it flashes 2x and goes through its regular initial start up. I have tried multiple roms but it seems the phone never gets into Recovery mode. I think the bootloader is locked. If anyone can figure it out please let me know. I CANT STAND THIS STOCK nonsense anymore. I'm SOO used to it being rooted with my old phone.

First and foremost...did you flash clockworkmod recovery?

If not, this should be the first thing you do. Open ROM Manager--->the very first, top item should be "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery."--->confirm phone model=motorola droid (cdma).

Sounds like you may not have done this...let me know if I am wrong as a first step to helping you.

This...
Also, remember the stock ROM will overwrite CW every time you reboot. So, you have to go in and flash CW every time then boot into recovery. Once you flash a custom ROM that issue should be solved and CW should stay put.

ok well i followed your steps, I went into ROm manager flashed clockmod recovery (2.5.0.1) after i did this i went to install ROM from SD card my phone prompted me that it was going into recovery and rebooted. The motorola symbol flashed 2x and it went into its regular start up. After i restarted i even went into Rom manager again and click manual reboot into recovery, and same thing happened. I dunno what else to do, i dont think im doing anything wrong.

So, when you flashed CW recovery did it seem to work (i.e. did the scroll bar at the top appear to complete the process?)

It sounds like the custom recovery isn't "sticking."

1) Flash CW again as per the steps I mentioned and note that the process finishes (or seems to)
2) Shut down phone
3) Open physical keyboard and, while holding down the 'x' key on the keyboard push the power button and continue to hold 'x'.
4) If CW flashed successfully you should go into custom recovery.
5) Report back and THEN we'll worry about a custom ROM

If this doesn't work, lets try the next step (keep in mind...I'm basically a noob here myself but generally have pretty good luck troubleshooting my own phone.

1) Open ROM manager and scroll to the bottom
2) press "flash alternate recovery" and "ok" noting that it seems to complete successfully
3) Reboot----though not sure if this is necessary
4) Open ROM manager again and flash clockworkmod recovery again as per the previous instructions.
5) Repeat step #3 from above...i.e. shut down and start phone while holding 'x'

If these steps don't work we may have reached the end of whether I can help you or not and someone with more experience (of which there are many) will be able to help.

Don't get frustrated and keep at it!

+1 with what Carassius said with one addition.

If what he suggests in his posts does not work try the following:

1. Flash clockwork Mod Recovery,
2. Then when flash SPRecovery from Clockwork
3. Finally Flash Clockwork mod a third time

Do these one after another and when you have done this turn your phone off, power it on while holding the "X" key until it goes into recovery. Recovery will be a list of options in green. If you release the "X" key to soon it may continue with the reboot like normal.

I don't know why but the three way flash seems to work for some people that have problems with just flashing Clockwork recovery once. Also I would make sure you picked the correct phone when installing the Clockwork app. It sounds like you did but it never hurts to check.

If the listed processes do not work please post again and be specific with everything you did. The more you tell us the better we can figure out how to help you.:)

had this problem earlier,

1) make sure you have super admin status by typing "su" in terminal emulator and make sure it doesnt say "access denied" after you type "su". if you dont have super admin status then clockwork mod wont work, so reroot your phone.
2) reinstall "rom manager" and flash clockworkmod recovery ABSOLUTELY FIRST, if it comes up with a box that says it cant do it thats cuz your phone isnt rooted, try rooting again.
3) click "reboot into recovery" let your phone reboot into recovery
4) then use nandroid to back up your phone

the rest is simple and pretty much self explanatory, just load your rom (still in .zip format) onto the sdcard from your computer, then reboot into recovery and install from sdcard, then find your rom and confirm it is the one you want to install.

one thing though, and its called the boot loop, thats what the backup from nandroid is for. i ran into this earlier today too. youll get the droid logo, itll cycle through and then restart over and over and over. if you get that then restore your rom you just backed up, use clockworkmod recovery, install rom from sd card, click on the .zip, then wipe data and cache. wiping the data and cache should fix the boot loop problem.

i think you cant boot into recovery because your phone for some reason became unrooted and clockworkmod recovery uses super admin status for the recovery, so no matter how long you press it or how many times you try itll try booting to the recovery and fail so itll just boot straight to the os.

I assumed you wouldn't be able to open rom manager without root access. I could be wrong.

So...what's up blackmagic? Did any of these suggestions work?

Yours must have. He hasn't been back here and the last time online was fours days, one hour and almost thirty minutes ago, lol. That's how it goes.

Hehe ain't that the truth. If we did all of this for the thanks we wouldn't be doing it, but in all seriousness I agree it probably fixed his problem which is what matters most.:)

just for future reference is people have this issues again. I have flashed an older version of clockworkMod and that has corrected the issue
