Need help Rooting with 2.3

[hbimajorv]

Wondering if someone can link me a step by step to rooting with gingerbread. Never rooted a phone and I haven't seen a write up since sprint rolled out 2.3 is it different now? Also some advice on custom roms and best way to backup would also be appreciated! Thanks

I would go to forums.androidcentral.com and go to sprint optimus s the look at all of the threads before rooting
