Root Need help with bootloader

ItsRoland

Lurker
I have an HTC one m8 5.0.1

I went to the htc website and went through the steps to unlock bootloader. Everything was going smoothly until I submitted my token. It gives me this:

Error Code: 172.
Error Reason: CID Not Allowed (MID not exist in Model Rule).

What do I do?

Verizon does tend to lock down their devices to prevent rooting/unlocking. You'd have to check with Verizon directly to confirm which (if any) devices can be unlocked/rooted/modified.

That is legit, but Verizon 5.0.1 isn't supported (if you click through to the thread it says this). Since the Lollipop update, a root exploit hasn't been found for Verizon devices. Otherwise (i.e. if you were on KitKat or another carrier), I would've referred you to the SunShine S-OFF website, which works on all other M8s (besides Verizon). Unfortunately for Verizon Lollipop, as I previously stated, there is no current option.
