Need Help With Buddies Now Please

Just got my phone and still trying to figures it out...I pressed the home key and settings however it would not let me add anything. Is this normal? Do i have to download a widget or something? Please help....
 
Not really sure if understand what you are trying to do but Buddies Now is a Widget you have to load first. Go to an empty screen and long press and then choose Widgets. Click on the Buddies Now widget and it should now be available on the screen. Click the big + sign and it will go out to your contacts for you to choose one.
