Help Need Help with Galaxy S3 Ringtones

Hi Everyone,

I am a pround owner of a Shiny New Galaxy S3, and I am a complete newbie to smart phones so you will have to forgive my lack of knowledge.

I am having a problem. I am trying to set up separate ringtones for a few family members. Is this possible, and if so, how?

I have read a post and all its threads, I tried all the suggestions I could but nothing seems to work. I can't even set up folders like are suggested. So obviously I must be doing something wrong. I finally found where to add folders, but it would not let me name a folder with multiple levels using the "/". It states it is an invalid character . . . .

I would really appreciate any help at all that you can give.

Please be extremely specific and go though every step, as chances are I will need help with it.

Please let me know if you need additional information from me.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello and welcome Katepwagirl!
Open up your contacts.
Click on a specific contact.
Scroll down to the option for "ringtone" and pick a ringtone for the contact.

Is that what you desire to do?

I hope I understood your question correctly. And I might move this into your device forum for you. You can get more device specific help there if you desire.:)

Rxp...Mike :p do you remember where the ringtone folder is mate? My mp3 ringtone keeps changin back to the samsung theme at embarasing times lol so i think if i move it to that folder itl be cool

Thanks for the info. My problem is that I want to use the ringtone app I down loaded and I don't know how to access it once I'm in the contacts. I did post this message on another board in here, but I'm not sure which one it was. Please go ahead and post wherever you think I might get the best help from.

I see what you did there :p
Look in /system/media/audio/ringtones. :)

Just curious what app you are using? When in a specific contact and you choose the ringtone option, what comes up?--the stock ringtones only?

I deleted your other duplicate post. As far as the thread you had elsewhere, I moved it here. I p.m.'ed you about it :)

What is the ringtone app you use? Perhaps you should pose this question on the apps forum if it is app related.

My ringtones and notifications are just MP3 or WAV files which I copy to the phone. I do have an app that creates a notification sound from the text-to-speech engine. It creates the WAV file which I name and then it appears on my list of notifications to choose from. Is this how your ringtone app works?

Most ringtone apps can access your contact files directly, so just open the app and select a ringtone, then it should ask you which contact to apply it to.

Anyone got any idea why im getting "permission denied" when trying to copy or move an mp3 file to system/media/audio/ringtones? (Rooted, using ES)

Got it :)
Excellent, thanks mate
Lol how did u guess i dont like a refridgerator app like a FILE EXPLORER changing its UI so drasticly grrrr stupid ES :D
