Help Need Help with galaxy S3

Hello, I recently got a samsung galaxy S3 in a trade, everything seemed legit until i went to go activate it, they told me the phone can be activated but it's still registered to someone elses account. Until the device is released they can't activate it, I phoned the guy several times and every time he says he'll do it but he never does. I did have it checked at mts, so it's not flagged as stolen or lost and i checked the imei, it's clear. So my question is if i take my sim from my blackberry torch 9800, cut it into a micro-sim and put it in the S3, will it actually work or will mts find out and block the device? I feel like i got totally screwed, and from reading up on it, it seems like it fairly common. I'm just looking for ideas of a way around this so i can actually use the phone.

Thanks.

Nope.. it sounds legit like you mentioned but the seller needs to call his service provider and remove the phone from his account which will clear the ESN # allowing it to be activated by another user. Until then, they will think the phone was stolen.. even though it wasnt. Thats why when you see devices listed for sale on eBay for example.. they'll be listed as "clean ESN".. meaning ready for activation.

I would pester the seller to call and remove the phone from the account. It may automatically deactivate if the seller adds a new device to his line.. but who knows how long that will be.

I know it's works with mts for sure, and i guy i traded with told me it will work on rogers also so it might be unlocked. Is there a way to tell if it's unlocked?

Ya i've been trying to get him to do it for a week now but he still hasn't, talk about being beyond frustrating , thats why i was seeing if there was a way around it.

Which Provider are you using?

Hey, i'm using mts (manitoba telephone service) in canada. He phoned mts they said they won't release the phone until he pays out his 2.4 year contract. Basically he's refusing and his credit is now in the toilet, but he's claiming he bought the phone off of kijiji. This phone is locked to mts.

He said the way to use the phone i would have to have it rebooted does anyone know what that means? or does he mean unlocked?

Probably unlocked. Reboot just means turning off/on lol. Id go round and hit him with it!
I dont know how things work in Canada but in UK (not in US), its legal to get a phone unlocked BUT, if he owes his carrier money, they could just IMEI-block the phone as stolen at any time and you wont be able to use it as a phone. He's ripped you off i think man :(
