Root need help with root of captivate

okay, this is different (for me anyway). i have a captivate that had 2.1 eclair on it when i bought it. so i rooted, and flashed a custom rom (serendipity 7). later i went with fasty for the battery life. flashed both of them, and had no problems. i was able to upgrade and get an infuse, so i let the kid use the captivate for a bit. when she gave it back, i wanted to flash a couple of different roms just to check them out.

well, following the videos on mobiltech, i used odin to flash back to stock, and when i went to go into the market and download rom manager, it wouldn't find the 'free' version. however, the paid version is in gbp, so i think my phone thinks it's overseas???? if i go to the market on my infuse, it's there. i have rooted the phone, but if i copy the apk to the sd card, the phone won't install it, says it is for my protection to only allow programs from the marketplace. i have unknown sources checked, but still no go.

specs right now:
2.1 -update 1 eclair
I897ucjf6 baseband
2.6.29 kernel

anyone got any ideas? i'd like to be able to flash a rom or two, and retain the capabilities to go back to stock if necessary.... and the market place is a puzzler for me, i have selected english-us in locale....

i got the same problem after odin... but i dont even have the option to allow unknown sources.... it sux that knowbody responds to this.

After odin I rooted the phone again and when I tried to install rom manager from my sd I get the parsing error. I do not have an option to allow unknown soures. I would like to be able to get rom manager to flash cwm. Is there another way to get clockworkmod??? I'm on 2.1
