Help Need help With Samsung Kies

Hi I'm new to Android and haven't got a clue.

I got a Galaxy S2 and no CD came with the phone to install software.
So with no knowledge of my phone or the software needed, I went to the Samsung site to search and I've found a program called Samsung Kies.

There were other software options like PCStudio, but I didn't download that because it did exactly the same.

My problem is though when I connect the Galaxy S2 with the USB cable that came with the phone, to my Samsung laptop, it connects for 2 seconds, tries to sync automatically, then I hear the USB disconnected sound and a message saying the following error:

"Device connection disrupted. Check the connection and try again."

I've checked for updates for Windows 7
I've checked for Windows Media Player updates
I've checked for Kies updates (which I've got)
I've updated the firmware for the phone (although how that happened I'll never know).

I think it has something to do with the phone screen locking (I have the it set to 2 minutes auto-lock and pattern unlock.

I'm at a complete loss.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Ok, so I've noticed that the problem is when trying to actually sync the phone.

If I disable automatic sync, the phone doesn't lose connection, as soon as I select something to sync and press the sync button, the connection is immediately lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this isn't all that helpful, but the main problem with Kies is that it's a steaming pile of ..... I read elsewhere that the Kies programmers should be staked out in a desert and have red fire ants applied to their genitals. After 3 weeks of grief struggling with the damn thing, I can only agree.

Sadly if you google "Kies problems" you'll be buried in the hits you get. My phone would sync a) not at all, b) sometimes or c) said it had synced but didn't transfer any data. Any of these could happen on any particular day.

My rescue was a piece of software called gSyncit, which may be the best

I don't get it, the device isn't fit for advertised purpose. I got the phone because of its 16gb hdd for the music storage, and I can't take advantage of it because when I try to sync, it ejects the device.

Has Samsung or O2 said anything?!?

I had the same issue with disconnecting with my SE X10 on my 64-bit Win7 PC but when I used my 32-bit Win Vista PC everything worked fine.

Today I almost ****ed up my SGS2 trying to update it on the 64-bit PC. The update stoppet several times on various %. Switched to the 32-bit and everything went fine. :)

After much trial & error and spanning many forums... here's how I managed to get my SG2 to connect to Kies and update firmware / synch etc.

Prerequisites:

1. A reasonably fast PC
2. Genuine samsung usb cable which came with the phone
3. Odin not running and 'New PC studio not installed'

So...

1. If you have kies installed then uninstall and remove the samsung directory from program files. Following reinstall, in kies install drivers
2. Still in kies check the 'start kies when phone plugged in'
3. Close kies
4. Make sure the phone is fully charged, remove charger/other cables and take out battery then wait 10 seconds.
5. reinsert battery and start phone and wait until all internal scans finished.
6. Press and hold 'home' button until task manager appears and in task manager clear ram. If task manager does not appear when holding button in then navigate to to TM and clear ram, keep doing this until hold home button works.
7. Insert usb lead and the phone should enter 'mtp mode' and drivers will install. If there is no response from phone then try changing to a different USB port on PC.

That's it!
