Root Need help with shell telling me ther isn't enough memory

So I decided to try to play with the system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl file, trying to remap power to be center dpad. I pushed the modified file using adb. It says all went good. Problem is that it deleted the qwerty.kl file but didn't put a new one in. So from shell I tried to recover by copying the backup I created on the sdcard back to the system/usr/keylayout directory. I now have an error that says there isn't enough memory to do that. What can I do. From what I have read, without the qwerty.kl file no buttons will work. I figure that will happen after reboot since I don't have any problems now.

So I looked into this some more. Apparently I can't write anything to /system without s-off which I wasn't able to get. I rooted from 2.3 and I couldn't get 2.2 up to run unrevoked and get s-off. I may have seriously ruined my life.
