Root Need help with what roms run with which hboots.

I previously owned an LG Optimus Elite so HTC and S-off, boot, and all this is new to me. I have the juopunutbear hboot 1.57 and I'm S-Off on the Unlocked Potential HD ROM. I have Boot Manager Pro, and I want to run a CM rom using that on the Sdcard in slot 1. I know I need to downgrade my hboot. But if I do so, will I even be able to use Unlocked Potential HD anymore since it's a stock based ROM? And can someone write me a little info about which Hboot is best, and what ROMs are most compatible with each one? I hear 1.50 is best but Idk. It's Sprint based. So would I have to go through the "fix everything by turning your phone into an evo3d" thread to use the lower hboot? What is the benefits of doing the fix everything thread?

I will hit the thanks button to anyone who answers my questions. :] Once I learn some knowledgeable stuff about this phone I can use it to help other noobs like me then when they ask these questions.

Any hboot version below 1.57 will flash and boot all ROM's except ICS stock and a couple of other ICS Sense based ROM's. The 1.57 stock and 1.57.5757 JBear hboots will only boot ICS Sense based ROM's and not the GB and AOSP ROM's.

My personal recommendation is the JBear 1.50.5050 hboot unless you are planning to only use ICS Sense ROM's. If you search this forum you should find several posts that reference download links for that hboot.

Your best bet is to use the hboot 1.5050. Its compatible with nearly EVERY rom.

The stock ROM and CoolEXE ROM (I think is the name.) and Jmz's stock roms are the only ones that I can think of that need 1.57.

1.5050 is compatible with all the rest that I've seen so far.

Edit:

To get you started, here is a (work in progress) list of some compatible roms with different hboots:
http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3d-all-things-root/650310-compatible-roms-different-hboots.html

Also, you can find all the STOCK hboots in my thread here:
http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3d-all-things-root/648902-radios-hboot-firmware-all-downloads.html

When I have some time, at some point, I will maybe add some custom hboots as well.

There is a juopunut bear patched hboot 1.50.50.50 and an eng hboot 1.4 that are said to be compatible with a wider variety of roms.

I personally have been using the stock htc 1.50.00.00 hboot for a long time. I don't have the need to switch a lot but when I wanted to try some ICS roms, i just flashed to hboot 1.58.

I am dual booted using a JB rom based off of CM10. It's my primary. In slot 1 I have zred GT for when I want to boot over to sense for something. It's a GB based rom.

About unlocked potential, I'm not sure.. It doesn't say what hboot is required. You will probably need to ask in that rom thread. Some roms are built now to work with GB and ICS hboots so they will work with either.

It won't hurt you to use an Evo 3d hboot on your Evo V. They are all compatible.

As far as lowering the hboot, you are s-off, you can choose any hboot you want. You don't need to do the fix everything thread. If you took the OTA before rooting, that fixes everything that the guide does. That was built before there was the OTA. If you didn't take the OTA, you can find the firmware from the update in my thread posted above in the 3rd post at the bottom. This would be the easiest way to take the updated firmware.

The main benefit from the fix everything thread was the updated radio from the Sprint Evo 3d GB radio to the Evo 3d ICS (newest) radio. Being s-off, you can choose any of the radios and switch between them.

I tried to answer as many of your questions as I could. I hope I was at least a little helpful.

Edit: Double Ninja'd. Damn....

And the stock ICS you mean is just the complete stock one? Or all the actual stock based ROMs? And what is cool ICS?

True stock or rooted stock. Most developers that use the Sense 3.6 stock ROM as a base make their custom ROM's compatible with the other hboots.

And Cool ICS is an Evo 3D custom ROM developed by coolexe.
