Root Need help

Opticity

Newbie
I tried to root my DHD using AAHK; it needed to downgrade so I allowed it to download the files and do it. The downgrading proceeded smoothly until after checking for the PD98IMG files, which put me back into the HBOOT screen. At that point I tried to navigate the HBOOT screen but it was unresponsive. I removed the battery, started up the phone and it got stuck at the first startup screen (the htc words only).

Here's what I see at the HBOOT screen:

HBOOT

<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item

FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC

EDIT: After removing the SD card from my phone, I can finally navigate the HBOOT screen, but I still can't get past the frozen loading screen.

It has been some time since I did this. I wanted to clarify. You got stuck when you were supposed to use the volume button to select the image to flash?

I don't think so... The device was in the HBOOT screen and was checking for the PD98IMG files, and then it took me back to the normal HBOOT screen and froze there. According to the AAHK, I have to use fastboot to boot the phone then run AAHK again to root it, but I couldn't because of the frozen HBOOT screen.

Below this, is there is a list of options?

It should be possible to flash a factory image. Ironically I do not know how to do that.

Some additional information:

  • What country are you located in?
  • Where did you get your phone (local or imported/carrier or unlocked)?
  • When did you buy it (indicate if new or second hand)?
  • Do you remember what software version you were running (or when was the last time the phone updated the operating system).

It is a weekend so most of the guys are out, but they will be here soon. I think we can sort this all out.

Um, I get the HBOOT screen. It's navigable as of now because I've removed the SD card. Basically what I can see is on the first post.

Sorry, when I re-read your post I realized you already said it so I edited.

If you put back your SDCard, can you still navigate on HBoot?

Your phone from South East Asia or Japan?

1. Malaysia.
2. Locally. I'm not sure about the carrier or unlocked stuff.
3. Late December 2011. New.
4. I do remember a 2.3.5 version (Gingerbread). I don't know when was the last time it updated.

Sorry, when I re-read your post I realized you already said it so I edited.

Nope. Freezes.

Out of desperation and such, I tried the factory reset and recovery options (wiped out cache partitions and user data) to no avail. Just telling in case it affects anything.

Okay, if you were on Android 2.3.5 you would have to run AAHK twice. From your region I am pretty sure you were running HTC Asia WWE 3.13.707.4 before you ran AAHK.

Step 1. From the manual.

If you are running one of the following build versions, a full downgrade is required. Which means your data WILL be lost. This kit will autodetect these versions and perform the full downgrade, if needed. Once the downgrade is complete, you need to set up the phone and rerun the hack kit to complete the process:

HBoot shows:

ACE PUT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.09.04.11_M2

So it looks like AAHK was able to downgrade you to this ROM:

RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed

Step 2. After this you were supposed to run AAHK again and it would do the following:

Copy required files
Root the phone temporarily
Convert your SD card into a goldcard
Enable S-OFF on your phone
Set SuperCID and remove the SIMLOCK for your carrier
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
Root your phone permanently
Flash Superuser app and binaries

It looks like you never got to Step 2.

I think if we are able to flash a RUU things should be okay.

Download:

RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed

  1. Download the file
  2. Connect your device via USB.
  3. Double-click on the .EXE file you downloaded.
  4. The program will check your device's compatibility and if all is well, it will start the update procedure.

This should put you back on Android 2.2 or an early 2.3 and allow you to continue rooting with AAHK.

An alternative would be to use:

RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.13.707.4_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_234022_signed.exe

This should put you back on the same ROM before you use AAHK.

I am a bit of a noob. Wait for confirmation from someone else before proceeding.

I have to apologize some of my questions were useless. I should have figured things out earlier. I suck at troubleshooting.

I'll download the file first, but I shouldn't use it until somebody else comes to confirm it, right? If I DID flash the file, would anything go wrong?

I have to apologize some of my questions were useless. I should have figured things out earlier. I suck at troubleshooting.

No you're not, you've been extremely helpful. And I'll try to cooperate as best as I can.

I do not think so. It should simply not work.

There are a lot of excellent mods and guides here. But the timezone differences mean I would not expect a response from them for 8-12 hours. We are on the same timezone.

I posted just to let you know someone was looking and to get some info someone else could use. Than I got to reading. Still I have never flashed a RRU.exe before. Should be safe, but waiting for confirmation never hurts.

Now my only fear is that the device might not be able to be detected by the program, because I tried running AAHK again and it told me the device is not plugged in.

When you restored to factory, that probably turned USB debugging off. AAHK wont work with USB debugging off.

I guess it would not hurt to run the .exe file. Disable any anti-virus program.

The other way is to download a zipped RUU, put it into your SDCard and flash from the boot loader.

This would probably be the best file to do that with:

RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.zip

The zip file would have to be placed in your SDCard, but not in a folder. Just on the root of the SDCard. Do not unzip.

I am worried though about what you said about the phone hanging when the SDCard is installed. Do you have another microSD?

I asked this before but can you find out if your phone carrier locked? Did you get it from a carrier?

El Presidente, scotty85, D-U-R-X, CDPlant.... help!

No you're not, you've been extremely helpful. And I'll try to cooperate as best as I can.

I kind of want to learn how to do all this too.

That's the only microSD I have now, unfortunately.

Might be best to download the files you might need, both the exe and the zip. Than lets wait for someone to confirm. Am confident this will all be sorted out before end of day.

Alright, I've gotten my father's SD card plugged in and it's responsive. I guess it's my SD card's problem.

EDIT: Is there a mirror for the .exe and .zip files? I'm getting 8kb/s downloads and I don't think I can finish by tonight... or tomorrow, even.

Alright, I've got the .zip file downloaded, downloading the .exe file now.

Now awaiting further instructions.

EDIT: Alright, I'm feeling like flashing the .zip file already, but how do I do it anyway?

Oh well, if I were in your shoes, I would try something too. Patience has never been a virtue I had and being a Sunday, it may be till tomorrow before someone checks in on this thread. Good luck.

My impatience is what got me into this in the first place.

Well I've put the .zip file into the root of the SD card, got into the HBoot screen where the device checked for the PD98IMG files (all wrong or no image)... and then back to the Hboot menu. Is that it?

When you are in HBoot, what options do you see?

The only PD98IMG images I have found are for Cingular Desie HD's.

List of shipped ROM's.

My impatience is what got me into this in the first place.

Some times it seems just like a bit of bad luck. Had watch people follow the same instructions. 95% of the time it works. The remaining 5% leaves us all scratching our heads.

Want to try ---> Recovery ---> Install from zip ---> Select the zip you downloaded?

Almost forgot, you should check the md5sum of the file to make sure the download is good. The md5sum file is found beside the ROM in the list of shipped ROM's.

For the zip you got it is 100d6b3674f4bdbe90ef2ef2db4a53b2
