Root Need ROM help...

Okay, i've never rooted but have general knowledge. I've been hesitant to root because i want my GPS to work since i rely on it for work...I currently have EB13 on my phone and have not gotten the OTA EC05. I got a chance to play with EC05 today and it didn't do anything for me...I want to root and get rid of all the sprint crap on the phone...

I found this link One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! v2.5.5 Now has ClockworkMod Redirector! - xda-developers to root my phone.

I assume this will work okay?

Also, what ROM should i use to make my phone quicker all around including benchmark tests and still have working GPS. Do you guys have a link to something that is step by step with WORKING GPS? If not, i'm not interested.

I would update to ECO5 with root, then go from there. I think most of the devs will be switching to EC05 based roms anyhow. Follow this route it worked for me http://androidforums.com/epic-4g-all-things-root/304838-eb13-ec05-root.html . I can't help you with ROMs though, but I'm looking forward to suggestions.
 
Agreed that most developers will be switching to EC05 based ROMs.

Yes, that link will work to root EB13 or EC05 and will allow you access to delete the sprint preloaded bloatware.

As far as ROMs go... a lot comes down to preference. Do you want the latest and greatest (but still Alpha build) material, do you want TouchWiz, do you want everything stripped down as far as it can go, do you have any intentions of theming your phone???

So, this link will convert my EB13 to EC05 with root all at the same time? If so, i'll start with this first, then work on the ROM. I want to get this done tonight because i have a lot of time.

I don't know what Alpha build means. I would love to have the greatest as long as GPS works...

I hate touchwiz and constantly use launcher pro. Theming my phone would be nice. Basically i want it to be fast and stand out from the others. I love running speed tests and being high on results, lol. I just really need GPS working with whatever i do.

As i said, i'm fine with losing all the crap including touchwiz. I like the way gingerbread works, but i constantly use launcher pro. So whatever you think works for me i'll start with and go from there.

Yup that will work. I use this rom and love it. He has a video on his blog where will have to go to download the rom on how to update the modem. He will probably have an update soon where you wont have to do the modem separately.

I already did the above link and went from EB13 to EC05 rooted. I think it worked because my phone says EC05 now.

Anyway, what is CW3, or CW2.5? He says one click root or something? I don't know which root i have and i'm trying to install the midnight rom. I'm just looking for step by step instructions but don't know what CW3 is...
 
Press and HOLD volume down key, camera key and power button.

It'll open to a screen and work on converting your phone to a different format (will take a few minutes).

I assume the phone has to be off? His instructions are not as laid out...Things aren't flowing very well.
