Help need serious battery help

Guys,

Hope everyone is doing well.

I am having really big issues with my battery. It drains so fast that sometimes I charge my phone twice a day. A good example would be my phone not being plugged in at night when I sleep and I clear all the running apps and my phone will go down 40% in 6hrs without usage or turning the screen on. It's worth noting it charges usually really fast...

I noticed this since the last update, but there has to be something that's causing this... I am not comfortable having the phone on me all day when I am out for the day because it will die on me.

Can you please let me know what details I can give you for you to help me figure out how to make this better? I got GSAM battery monitor and the Wake Lock Detector apps I can take some screen shots...

I really appreciate everyone's help... I love my note2, but this battery issue is preventing me from fully utilizing it and just trying to save what battery life I got left.

Thanks!

When there is a battery problem on your phone, the issue might be a running app or the battery itself. From your description of the problem, I would think the app problem has been ruled out since you have written you turn off all running apps but still the battery gets drained.

So I would conclude, your battery is undergoing a slow death, but that shouldn't be final. With a battery monitoring app, you will know which app draining your battery id there's any.

GPS, GPRS, WI-FI and internet connections also use alot of power, turn that off while not in use.

I uploaded a couple screen shots...it doesnt give me a good idea what actually drains my battery. I used clash of clans for like 20mins in total today as I do every day...

Miss Vickie, do you have a spare battery? If not, I suggest that you get one. It's good to have a spare and also good to test to see if the original battery is dying.

Is the battery you have now the original? If so, how old is it?

Tube,

I got my phone in November 2012... still the original.

I get that batteries get old and stuff, but seems that that's not the case for many other people on here, which makes me believe something is draining it, as it significantly changed a day after my upgrade to 4.3 :(

Yeah, those 2 kernel wakelocks listed on the far right screenshot may be the issue but I'm no expert.. I don't even know what they are.

Did you factory reset the phone before or after the upgrade to 4.3?

No i've not... I heard I should...but I am scared I am going to lose all my stuff... specifically photos and videos

does it really make a difference?

Miss_Vickies,

I'm not ruling it out, but looking at your wake lock log, I would tend to want to blame an app of some sort on your poor battery life instead of a bad battery. Have you tried running the phone in safe mode? If not, I would reboot into safe mode right after taking it off the charger and let it run for a while and see if you see a difference. If you do, then you have the ominous task of determining which app is causing your wake lock issues. To boot the phone into safe mode, completely power off the phone, press the power button (to power on the phone) and when you feel the very first small vibration immediately begin to rapidly tap the menu softkey (left of the home key.) If you have successfully made it into safe mode, there will be a small safe mode indicator at the bottom of the unlock screen. In safe mode, you can use any app that came preinstalled on the phone. The apps that you added will not be available. Allow the phone to run in safe mode for a few hours to see what your battery life is like. If the drain is gone, then its time to troubleshoot. Honestly, if you have no drain in safe mode, I would do a factory reset and be done with it.

As for the condition of your battery, LiON batteries are not like their predecessors, when they begin to go bad, they drop off very rapidly and once dead, they are completely dead. That being said, if your battery life is getting worse quickly, I would go ahead an purchase a spare battery. Just in case.

If you opt to go ahead with the factory reset, just make sure your photos and videos (and anything else you want to keep) are copied to your SD card. The reset should not affect the SD card. If you are nervous about that, take the SD card out until the FDR is complete.

Keep us up to date on your progress.

It's always recommended to do a Factory reset after (or before) any OTA update. It doesn't solve every single issue that comes up but it does seem to help on some. It's a royal pain and that is why people don't like to do it. Like Gonzo said, backup your photos, videos, and files and everything to your sd card or even your computer. I personally use Box or Dropbox (Cloud apps) to backup photos.

Your contacts should be backed up to your Gmail account (if you saved them to your google/Gmail account). There is an app to backup texts in the Play store.

Good luck!
